The Red Wolf coloration (which is not present in pure gray wolves) is proof of that parentage.  (At one time, this wolf was called the "Algonquin wolf").  Note: in southeastern Ontario, he is referred to as a "Brush Wolf".  Also note:  There is little resemblance here to a western coyote.

The brown eyes indicate there is Coyote ancestry in this specimen.
