In Cold Water
I had been wading in my front pond for some time to clean the pump and filter. As the weather gradually got colder, it became more of a chore. The cold water chilled my legs but I put up with it. One day, Joel was watching me in my trunks, waist deep in the cold water.
He asked me, "Poppa, how can you stand the cold water like that?"
I replied with a simile, "A long time ago. in Scotland, MacGregor mothers used to bathe their MacGregor boys in cold water twice a day. In that way, MacGregor boys became tough, and could beat their enemies in battle."
With that, Joel stuck out his chest and announced, "I'm a MacGregor!" I replied, "Of course you are!"
A few weeks passed, and I asked Joel if he told anyone in school about our little talk.
He replied, "Yes, and all my friends think you're something really special!"
