majlis approves two more articles of election amendment bill tehran, aug. 16, irna -- majlis in its open session monday continuing debate on amendment to the election law exempted head of the expediency council from resigning for candidacy in the majlis elections. presided over by vice-speaker hassan rowhani, the majlis approved two more articles of the elections amendment bill. reviewing article 29 of the elections law where it outlines those officials who should resign from their posts before nominating themselves for parliamentary elections, the deputies upheld the previous law but exempted head of the expediency council from the law. another article of the amendment law which was approved by the mps outlines the general qualifications of candidates. according to the article candidates at the time of registration should practically be committed to islam and the islamic system. they should be of iranian nationality, loyal to the constitution and the principle of vlayat-e faqih. the candidates should hold at least post graduate diploma or an equivalent degree, and be between 30 and 75 years of age. they should not be blind or deaf. the majlis will continue the debate on the elections amendment bill in its next open session. sd/rr end ::irna 16/08/99 18:06 NAMAA NEWS
