Jim Thorpe, PA & Gananoque, Ontario Links

September was a 10 day journey. We headed to Hazleton, PA for a friends wedding and spent the night at the Ramada Inn. Then a few local trips to Jim Thorpe and Lake Harmony, PA then back to Canada for the rest of the week. Even the Bride and Groom honeymooned at Nordlaw Lodge on Bobs Lake, Ontario. The highlight of our trip was the enjoyable ride on the Hovercraft at the 1000 islands in Gananoque.

Stops Along the Way (Pennsylvania)

Ramada Inn, Hazleton, PA
*The first thing I expect in a hotel is a clean bathroom, which this one was autrocious. Sticky floor, film on the tub and dirty mirrors. At least the towells and linnens appeared to be clean.
Jim Thorpe, PA (more on this town can be found in the Pennsylvania links)
*****Plenty to do in Jim Thorpe. Check out the view of this little town nestled between the beautiful mountains in PA, from pics below taken from Flagstaff Restaurant and Ballroom.

*****Jim Thorpe aka the Switzerland of America! A beautiful little town to visit, nestled in the mountains of Pennsylvania

1000 Islands Hovercraft Tours - The Future is Here (see the pictures below)
*****This is the most fun and comfortable way to tour the 1000 islands. Only 17 passengers at a time on this climate controlled all season tour. *Now located on the Ottawa River at the Rowing Club*
Steve's Rideau Restaurant
*The Pizza is great, but I think the chicken I ordered was actually a sparrow. I wasn't even asked if I wanted something else, when brought to the server's attention, & she took forever with our bill
Brockville, Ontario
****We drove to the end of the 1000 Island Parkway to visit the beautiful town of 22,000 along the St. Lawrence.

The Hovercraft in Gananoque

Your Friendly Pilot and his Hovercraft

The best way to see the 1000 islands is to take one of the many local cruises. Our favorite was the Hovercraft tour out of Gananoque, because it just just MORE fun and a little less crowded, being that it seats 17 instead of 350 like some of the bigger ones. *NOTE* Unfortunately for the tourists of Gananoque, Randy and his Hovercraft are now located in Ottawa on the Ottawa River, operating from the Ottawa Rowing Club. We wish Randy the best of Luck in Ottawa and will greatly miss seeing the hovercraft around the islands! Click here to read about the boat lines in the 1000 Islands.
