This part of the page is about me,
the person who has put it here. I am a 40 something female, with 4 children.
I have been around the personal computer mostly as a hobbiest since the mid
80s, even before the popular IBM type machine was in wide use. I have never
been to or taken a class in computers, or computer technologies. All I have
come to know about them, is from personal experence or things shared by others
to me. This is my attempt to thank those who have helped me in the past by
passing on what little I know, to others as I can, in the hope that perhaps
some of the enjoyment I have had from using the personal computer will be had
by you. I started using the personal computer after getting one, a Commodore
VIC-20 for my childrens use mostly. After seeing them only really use it for
games, and little in the way of learning, I decided to try to make some
greater use of it. I started playing with the basic programing on the machine
from the manuals and so forth. As time passed the VIC-20 was replaced by a
Commodore 64, then an IBM type machines. I started operating a phone line
Bulletin Board service locally. This was all before the days of what most now
call the internet, back when the term "windows" was referring to house or car
glass. Due to the need to move to a new location, and other factors, I ended
operation of the bulletin board a few years before the internet really took
hold. Over this period I really did not stay too current with computers and
used them only for a few household book keeping duties. I started upgrading
until I managed to obtain a 486 -75, (Windows 3.1) and considered the idea of
going online. I did try it out and liked it but found that Windows 3.1 and a
486 was a bit behind the times at that point. So I obtained a 350mhz machine
with an AMD Processor and Windows 98 about July of 1999.
I did this page for the new user mostly, and as such it is not intended to be for the seasoned computer user or long time chatter. However even some of the areas on this site may be useful to even those I consider moderately experenced users of the personal computer. For those wishing to know more about my qualifications, I have worked as a support rep on a chat server for a well known chat client until such time that changes were made in the structure of that orgainization that prompted me to stop working there in that role. I have spent a bit of time in Yahoo Chat Help, and also design webpages when I do get work doing so. I also grew up in a house with some basic electrical knowledge and have leaned how to do some basic computer repairs and upgrades myself. I try to be as helpful to people as I am allowed to be and feel that most who chat do so to have a pleasent time. As such there should be some reasonably level of respect and common sence used. I generally do not use anything other than text chat due to the fact I am in a rather rural setting and have a stable but slow connection into the internet. I am also far more comfortable with text chatting than voice as a rule having done so much of it over the years. I am also not looking to be someones cyber / online : girlfriend, wife, sister, daughter, mother, cousin, whatever. I am willing to be a friend where I can be and that is about all I can offer. - Jo Close This Browser Window |
