The purpose of this page is to: provide helpful links, and information for new to moderate internet/computer users. It is beyond the scope of this page to provide answers to all possible questions, however, it should provide several helpful items to computer users with many levels of experence. It is not intended for those who have degrees in Web Development, Computer Tech. Programing or what have you. If you have an idea for an additional topic, or information to a subject here feel free to pass that on to me via the email links on the pages. I have tried to make this page pleasing to look at, work with most browsers, as well as easy to navigate. Please keep in mind this site is always under construction. So it will be getting revisions from time to time, as I feel a need to do so. While most pages should work regardless of screen resolution, 800 X 600 and Internet Explorer are the preferred browser, and settings. I have been working on getting page sizes down as small as I can and still retain a nice appearance. Being on a dial up in a rural area, I know what it is like to wait on pages to load. So I have tried to keep as much as possible common on the pages to allow many files to download once and then to be reused on other pages on the site. I have recently trimmed about over 200 kb off the two Flash screens seen by most who come onto site which will cut anywhere from a second or so on fast connections to perhaps a minute in loading times on slow connections. If you do not find what you are looking for on this page there are several links from this page, as well as the Helps, and Links page to other sites. Most site links open into new browser windows ( except quick jumps ) so you can remain here until you wish to leave. All files here have passed anti-virus scans, and site is as close to bannerless as I can afford to make it. I also do not like to any sites I feel are not G Rated so if you do find one that isn't let me know. I do not feel I am a prude, but I do feel that such should be left ot private conversations and not forced on everyone is all. Since this site can be frequented by persons of all ages I prefer not to have links that are not suitable for all pages as well. There are no known issues with the page and/or contents. I am have started testing the page with the three most used Windows type browsers. ( Internet Explorer - Netscape - Opera ) Currently all things display more or less as intended. There was a problem with the ShortNews Ticker but I believe that has been corrected with the change to an Applet based version. If you are not seeing it correctly you may wish to consult the Microsoft Windows Update page for Internet Explorer updates, Netscape.com for Netscape users, and Opera's webpage for Opera users. I have tested with the following versions. MS Internet Explorer 5.5 and 6.0 - Netscape 4.08 ( 4.73 without mailer and editor ) - Opera 5.1 with Sun JAVA 1.3. Latest news... I will be scaling back my updates to this page. It seems there are many of these help pages now, and it seems counter productive for me to keep adding to this one. Perhaps I will just submit pages to larger more popular help sites instead of putting my efforts into this where it is not as likely to be seen or otherwise put to use. About Me? I am the first to admit I am not the smartest ot best educated person around. Most of the information on this page has been found by hit and miss, trial and error methods used by most of you. I do this page solely in the hope that it will be of use to someone as so many have helped me over the years. I started with computers back in the days before IBM Computers and Microsoft were household names. I however did not stay active with them with other matters of life requiring my attention, and after being pretty much up on the personal computer during the mid to late 1980's I did not keep up with the newest things that come along when the Internet blossomed, and far more discoved my former hobby. Yes hobby. I never really spent any serious time at the PC. It was for entertainment. About 3 years ago we obtained a Windows 98 machine when the old 486 ( Windows 3.1 ) based computer started having problems. I had more time to spend and got online and started back into a learning mode about Windows 95/98 and the Internet. What you see on these pages is the result of that journey. I have had help along this path by some very smart, talented and caring people. I am not going to name them here but for the most part I would guess they know who they are anyway. So I thank them here publically for the help they have given me. It is that spirit that I pass what I can, as best I can, here to you. I hope you find some of the effort helpful, and enjoyable. If you do feel a need to thank me do so by simply trying to spread a bit of kindness online. Too many seem to loose site of the fact there are real people at the other end, and whoever they are they deserve some common level of respect. This is how I would wish you to repay the use of this page if you find it helpful. I guess you can tell I am a child of the 60s and have not totally come out of the ideas from that time. Currently I do this page on a 350mhz Hewlett Packard with an AMD K6 2 processor, 35 GB of hard drive storage and 224 mb of memory. 19" monitor with 1024x768 resolution in TrueColor 32bit mode. I live in a very rural area and I have a slow ( dial up ) connection which there is little I can do about. So voice and video for chat and much of the multimedia is a slow operation here. The contents of this webpage pushes the Geocities storage. At the time I am writing this the site is over 90 percent full so you will be seeing an end to the additions to the site until I find a place to add on to. ( I have another site that I may use for that purpose already but I am not sure if I want to do that or not. ) I also work in the web development area to some extent but it is far from a full time job for me. Most of my use of the computer is still in the hobby mode. I do maintain a few websites for myself and a few friends and family. As far as software I generally use Arachnophilia for the webpage editing and WS_FTP_Pro for uploading page contents to websites. Currently my PC operates dual bootable operating systems of Windows 98 and Windows 2000 Professional. I also maintain the following browsers for testing of webpage contents, Internet Explorer 5.1, Internet Explorer 6.0, Netscape 4.08, Opera 5.11, Neoplanet 5.2. I also operate two antivirus programs on my system and a firewall. -Joanna (aka Easy_2_Confuse - as well as several other names ) For those who enjoy a real read, try this page from Paul Lutus ( Arachnophila HTML editor Author ) |
