Believe it or not, this is the biggest single overlook security and problem fix! If you are not updating Windows which is free, you cannot help but to have problems with it's operation. Not to mention the security updates that get added. AVG Grisoft Anti-virus software This is highly recommended Anti-virus software for free limited licensed use and is downloadable from the internet. I have looked for free for personal use antivirus software and this is the only one I have located that comes with any recommendations. Online scans are ok for those who do not download much and are careful about email attachments but the only way to provide true anti-virus protection is the run an installed real time monitoring anti-virus program on your computer that prevents a virus from being written to disk and keep it updated with current virus data. If you need anti-virus software and do not wish to buy a program such as Innoculate, PcCillen, Norton, or McAfee, I suggest you try this program. I currently use Innoculate and have a free limited license for it and PcCillen myself, so I am currently unable to test a third anti-virus program at this time. The AVG Antivirus software does provide email and file scanning with regularly updated virus lists. AT&T's Virtual Network Computing (VNC) -- Win9x, Win2K, Linux, Unix, Mac Considered purchasing Symantec's pcAnywhere but find it too expensive? Here is an interesting alternative. AT&T's Virtual Network Computing is, in essence, a remote display system which allows you to view a computing 'desktop' environment not only on the machine where it is running, but from anywhere on the Internet and from a wide variety of machine architectures. This simple utility has some significant advantages over other similar programs. No state is stored at the viewer. This means you can leave your desk, go to another machine, whether next door or several hundred miles away, reconnect to your desktop from there and finish the sentence you were typing. Even the cursor will be in the same place. It is small and simple. The Win32 viewer, for example, is about 150K in size and can be run directly from a floppy. There is no installation needed. It is truly platform-independent. A desktop running on a Linux machine may be displayed on a PC, a Solaris machine, or any number of other architectures. And it's freeware and freely distibutable under the terms of the GNU Public Licence. Also check out Tight-VNC, a version of VNC optimized for low-bandwidth connections.
