One of the most common problems to see is a JAVA breakdown. Until you know how to fix the problem, it can be a big hassle if you use pages that have JAVA included on them. Here is how to go about seeing if you have this problem with your JAVA and how to fix it. Depending on the version of Windows you are using, try this: Windows 95/98/ME goto the Start button on the lower left of your desktop, right click on it and then left click on Explore. This opens Windows Explorer. Click on Drive C, then The Windows folder, the downloaded program files folder under the Windows folder. ( C:\Windows\Downloaded Program Files ) look for JAVA Runtime Environment files that are listed as damaged. If they are damaged they are no longer of use. Right click on them and delete any listed as damaged. Windows NT4 or 2000 goto the Start button on the lower left of your desktop, right click on it and then left click on Explore. This opens Windows Explorer. Click on Drive C, then The Windows folder, the downloaded program files folder under the WINNT folder. ( C:\WINNT\Downloaded Program Files ) look for JAVA Runtime Environment files that are listed as damaged. If they are damaged they are no longer of use. Right click on them and delete any listed as damaged. ( the picture below does not have a damaged status but it is there so you know what the folder looks like )
You can also generally do the same with nearly any other item that is damaged in this folder. In most cases these items will download again if they are needed by the browser upon the next visit to the page or site using them. In Yahoo Chat this is also useful for SOUND and VOICE CHAT problems as well as VIDEO chat problems. If these files are listed as damaged it is likely they are preventing a replacement from being downloaded by the browser. The worst that usually results from removing damaged items is a slightly longer download on your next visit to the webpage. Windows Update Close This Browser Window |
