Win XP SP-1 Info Page.

It is reported that a vulnerablity in Window XP will allow anyone to put a link on a website that will wipe out directories except WINNT from the hard drive on a computer. Now according to reports this problem is addressed in the Windows XP SP-1 update HOWEVER there have been may who reported problems with the SP-1 update. I am not sure if this problem is related to cracked versions of Windows XP only or if all Windows XP or just Home or Pro versions are effected or subject to the problems already mentioned. Supposedly a quicker solution would be to attempt this fix.

Perform a search for a file on your Windows XP drive called "uplddrvinfo.htm". Once you have found the file, I would suggest renaming the file to some other name ( such as x_uplddrvinfo.htm ). I never suggest bolding deleting any file within the Windows OS unless you are sure they are not needed. Ideally if there is an ill effect from the renaming of this file it could be undone in Safe mode is my guess. Since I do not personally use Windows XP I am at a slight disadvantage when it comes to making suggestions about fixing problems with it. I just know that if it is a 150mb download for Win XP SP-1 and it has proved to be problems for many, If I were not in need of some function like Virtual Networking I would try to avoid installing the SP-1 update for Win XP for a few weeks until the information is sorted out.
