DEPRESSION
Its a deadly word D as pangs of Depression throng to engulf the mental storage tanks of many people who feel low at times, sad and withdrawn, fed up with something, somewhere out in this world. Reasons for depression may be minor to major; a feeling of utter loneliness, hopelessness, helplessness, guilt and anxiety, boredom or whatever it may be!
Come summer and there! S.A.D. Victims have melancholy feelings of gloominess and loneliness making impossible for them to function during daytime. They are the victims of Seasonal Affective Disorders (SAD) Their spirit lifts only after the season changes but till then, they have a gray season of temper flare ups, irritative behaviour, heat burns, low or high pressures and so on. The hormonal changes secreted by the brains pineal gland seem to play a role in SAD. Staying indoors shunning the sunlight or with airconditioners switched on, the heat impact is reduced. There is a link between the brain chemistry and depression.
Students have their depressive moods and it is known that one in 50 children under the age of 12 and one in 20 teenagers suffer from depression today. This means CAUTION! Life is in danger. World Health Organization has predicted that by 2020, depression will be the greatest burden of ill health in the developing world and will be the second largest cause of death and disability!!!! True or not but the fact remains that Emotional despair is a major health disorder. Such people see no end to their pain and no prospect of happiness in the future. With depression figures to an extreme rise with the changing world, it may strike you, your family, children or the just another person around you! Being sad, feeling low and unhappy is not a depression but basically symptoms associated with depression and these people are scared of the smallest task making them feel a horrific phase who think they are doomed to a life of sadness or failure. During exam time, some students face stress traumas as dealing with mindset is boggling cramming the lessons feeding into the brains. There is a lack of concentration as they are gripped with fear, inferior complex, lack of confidence and feelings of guilt and shame. A smiling kid if retreats to sulky silence and the behaviour lasts for more than ten days means its high time, high jinx, mood swings and not to be ignored.
Depressions are black dogs of despair, stikes like a deadly hound. It strikes the highly sensitive people. They are gripped with self hatredness, lethargy, despair, bouts of uncontrollable weeping, exhaustion and even delusions and who see hallucinations. Pull yourself together or Snap it out are the wisdom words of loved ones who pop advice and is like telling a heart patient or cancer patient to get better but the depressive needs love, care and understanding and this makes a big difference.
