A Welcome from His Royal Majesty

Dear Friends and Loyal Subjects

It is said that the wisest man knows when to keep his silence, but in these times of strife and insecurity the Royal Court is determined more than ever to bring Order to the corners of the Known Universe, and to conduct this quest through the Hall of Oratory in the Landsraad. It is here that the many facets of Imperial society gather and here where speech and communication are so vital for peace and stability.

The Imperium is the source of the unity that we seek, and the Emperor is a beacon of light embodying the eternal bonds between us all. It is my hope that my reign will be as glorious as those most noble Emperors before me, to bring the compassion, mercy, justice and peace we so desire.

- His Royal Majesty, The Padishah Emperor Shaddam IV, Ruler of the Known Universe

July 10181: Press Release from the Royal Court (Imperial Response to Ginaz Aggression)

Last month Imperial Sardaukar engaged in an operation alongside loyalist elements of the Imperium to restore order to the Niushe Sector. The operation was deemed a success with a minimum of casualties sustained.

The fief of Gamont has been stripped from House Ginaz in response to their breach of the Great Convention, their words of dissidence and treachery, and their continued aggression against other elements of the Imperium.

The Royal Court finds it both apt and appropriate that Gamont be awarded to House Leontis as due compensation for the devastation wreaked upon their homeworld Laoujin II by the unprovoked, illegal, and deceitful atomic attack undertaken by House Ginaz two months ago.

The Padishah Emperor therefore recognises the sole legitimacy of Leontis authority on Gamont from this time forward.

The events of last month serve as a stark reminder to all quarters of the Landsraad that breaches of the Great Convention are considered most grave and heinous crimes and that retaliation is not beyond the means of the Imperium. Rogue and rebellious elements are warned: there is only one Emperor, there is only one Imperium, there is only one legitimate authority to rule the known universe: His Imperial Majesty the Padishah Emperor Shaddam IV Corrino.

May 10181: Joint Statement from the Spacing Guild and the Golden Lion Throne (Situation in Canidar Sector)

The Padishah Emperor Shaddam IV has decreed that House Teranos must be punished for its illegal use of atomic weaponry in breach of the Chief Rule of the Great Convention.

His Imperial Highness has determined that the suitable response to the savage, violent, irrational and vengeful attack against Canidar Prime, is to strip House Teranos of its fiefdom on the planet Teranos. This territory will no longer be recognised by the Spacing Guild or the Golden Lion Throne as the legitimate property of House Teranos.

His Imperial Highness decrees that any loyal House of the Imperium is permitted to seize this asset at will. The first loyal House to achieve unilateral control of the planet Teranos will be granted with legitimate fiefholder status.

The Spacing Guild will re-open transport to the planet Teranos but shipping rights from the former homeworld of House Teranos are still prohibited along with transport to any other planet in the Canidar Sector.

May 10181: Speech by First Chamberlain to Emergency Landsraad Session (Main Council: Situation in Canidar Sector)

"This talk of dissent, of disloyalty, of a heartless dispassion for the Imperium which has been built on the foundations laid by the very ancestors of each and every one of you, is a tragic turn of events indeed.

"Where do we stand without the Emperor? Where do we stand without the Great Convention that enshrines the Guild Peace? We stand in chaos, gentlemen. That is where we stand.

"The Emperor is the source of unity for the universe. Without his guidance we become what I see happening around me at this very minute: a rag-tag motley collection of disparate, aggressive, bickering families all too keen to use the sword and not the pen for their solutions. Prepared to sacrifice precious lives, irreplaceable resources, morality and compassion for the sake of what? Of strength? Do each of you honestly think that a planetary possession is worth more than conscience? The inner demons will surface in the people who believe such things, and they will consume you. It has been said that things move in circles. Politics is the machinery that oils the wheels of such circles: how we behave in this Hall will slow down, speed up, or perhaps change the gear of the things to come.

"Let us not bicker then. Let us not fight amongst ourselves. And God forbid, let us not direct our anger at the one source of unity this Empire has at its disposal."

May 10181: Speech by Chamberlain Loria Gamane (Ambassador to the Main Council: Emergency Session on Situation in Canidar Sector)

"Jesting aside my dearest colleagues, the Imperium begs the question: to whom do we owe the pleasure of dispatching our Sardaukar?

"As all Houses are aware, the Great Convention is not to be trifled with. Each and every one of you, upon being graciously gifted with a fiefdom by his noble Highness the Padishah Emperor - be it the present Shaddam IV or one of His ancestors - committed to the principles of that charter.

"The Great Convention is the universal truce, my friends. Its Chief Rule, for those ignorant or foolish enough to forget - a difficulty indeed since such things are drilled into our minds no doubt as we are prepared for the business of politics is quite clear. Use of atomic weaponry against human targets is prohibited.

"The Great Houses, the Imperium, and the Spacing Guild itself are honour bound to uphold the laws of the Great Convention. It is quite clear: The forms MUST be obeyed.

"His Imperial Majesty Shaddam IV has spoken with our Spacing Guild associates on the matter. It is unquestionable my friends that the evidence points to one House, one House alone.

"Transportation documentation points directly at House Teranos. House Teranos my friends. House Teranos.

"Perhaps the less-than-honourable delegate for the Teranos wishes to make a statement? We are surely owed an *explanation* before Imperial legions descend on his beloved homeworld, are we not?"

HISTORY

House Corrino takes its name from the Battle of Corrin during which forces loyal to the Imperium fought those traitors and renegades who sought to spread dissent across the universe. The Battle, which took place near the Sigma Draconis sector in 88B.G (Before Guild), is taken as the beginning of the ascendancy of House Corrino and its subsequent and prolonged reign as holders of the Golden Lion Throne.
The mythology surrounding the foundation of the strongest Imperial rule since Ladislaus the Great united the Ten Thousand Worlds in 5022B.G has since become obscured through the ages, but it is known that Corrino bravery restored Order to the known universe and has made the Empire what it is today.
The present Padishah Emperor -  His Imperial Majesty Shaddam IV - is the 81st in the Corrino line to be seated on the Golden Lion Throne and began his reign in 10,156.

KAITAIN

The home of the Emperor of the Known Universe is both the political hub and the soul of the Empire.

Climate and Geography:
Kaitain is a luxurious planet of verdant forests, breathtaking savannah, magnificent rock formations and sapphire oceans. A specially calibrated environmental system ensures that pleasurable weather is always a constant there, and many thousands of Imperial citizens visit the planet as a tourist destination. Major natural landmarks include the Hagal Lakes, named after their crystalline reefs which many have claimed challenge even the beauty of Hagal quartz; the Imperial Ridge, a chain of lushous green hilly outcrops with their stunning views over the southern plains; Mount Corrin, the tallest peak on the planet and destination of many a brave adventurer; and more besides. Contact the Kaitain Bureau for Tourism and Commerce for further information.

Famous Attractions:
Kaitain is home to a number of impressive palaces built by previous Emperors, including the Arbour Palace of Elrood II and the Primus Palais of Saudir IV. Although many of the palatial buildings are maintained by the Imperial Trust for Historical Preservation the Padishah Emperor is free to inhabit any he wishes. At the beginning of his reign Emperor Shaddam IV spent his time in the Mallard Palace - built by Emperor Corrin XI and named after the small wild duck found living amongst the inhospitable foundation work - but His Majesty has since lived in no less than four of these impressive and intimidating monuments. The Emperor currently resides in the Opal Palace.

The Four Spire Palace of Emperor Ezhar VII, built in 5290 and one of the oldest surviving structures on Kaitain with its golden dome illuminated at night.

The Primus Palace of Emperor Saudir IV finished in 7081 and restored in 7092 after fire destroyed the south and west wings.

The Opal Palace

The current residence of Emperor Shaddam IV is located in the capital of the planet - Corrin City - along the Imperial Boulevard: an avenue lined with the statues of previous Corrino Emperors. The Palace was constructed in 6032 during the reign of Emperor Elrood VI who only enjoyed a year of the impressive State Rooms, Imperial chambers, and extensive landscaped gardens before succumbing as a victim of assassination.
