STEPHEN PETER ODENEAL Sr.

    Stephen Peter Odeneal was born Sept. 3, 1807 in Virginia. Stephen Peter married Jane M. DICKENSON January 12,
1831 they had ten children: Judy Ann, Surrillen R, William Augustus, Arastus D., Lorando Baron, Mary E., Bison
Polk, Alexander Taylor, Charles H., Marlina R. J. Jane died April 4, 1863 in Giles Co., TN. Stephen married Rose Ann FOUSE, most likely her second marriage, in 1864 and they had two children, Stephen Peter Jr., and Laura G. All of Stephen's children were born in Tennessee. He was a blacksmith, farmer, and Justice of the Peace. In the 1850 Giles Co., TN census Stephen is listed with 2,000 acres. He taught all his sons the blacksmith trade, although most later went into other trades or businesses. Stephen died April 10, 1871 in Giles Co., TN. Rose Ann was living with her daughter, Laura, and and son-in-law,  Thomas Phillips, in 1900.

    At least four sons served in the Civil War, all in the Confederate Army. They are, William Augustus, Arastus D., Lorando Baron and Alexander Taylor. William Augustus was in Company K of the 11th TN Cavalry. Arastus D. and Lorando Baron both served in Company B of the 32nd Tennessee Infantry. They both were in the two day Battle of Chickamauga at Chickamauga, GA. According to the Oct. 8 1863 edition of the Chattanooga Daily Rebel, Lorando was wounded slightly in the thigh and Arastus D. was wounded severely in the head during this battle, and died from his wounds on Sept. 19 or 20, 1863.

    Daisy Odeneal Hart had a book "The Living Word". In the front of this book on the first page, these words were written, "This book was sent to me after the death of Charley H. Odeneal, July 4, 1915 from Duncan, OK" signed Bison Polk Odeneal (brother of Charley). Daisy Odeneal Hart was Bison Polk's granddaughter.
