MARGARET JANE ODENEAL


 Margaret Jane Odeneal was born in Monroe Co or Washington Co.., TN March 18, 1827.  She married Pleasant W. Holt  and they had seven children, Pleasnat died and Margaret remarried Silas Michael, there were no children from this marriage.  Pleasant and father in law George M. were on numerous court records as witnesses to probate.  Margaret died March 1, 1904.

MARTHA JANE HOLT

    Martha Jane HOLT was born about 1852 in Mercer Co., MO.  She married Samuel LAWS and they had six children, one dying in infancy, but only three are known.

    Samuel Laws, sixty years old and a prominent resident of this county, died at his home Nov. 15, after a lingering illness.  Funeral services were held at the residence Thursday afternoon, being conducted by Rev. Victor Coon, after which the remains were taken to the Pine cemetery and tenderly laid to rest to await the coming of the Master who said “I am the resurrection, and the life that liveth in me, though he were dead, yet shall he live.”
 Mr. Laws was born March 20, 1851.  He married Martha Jane Holt September 1, 1870.  To this union were born six children- three boys and three girls-five of whom are living.  One died in infancy.  He was converted and united with the Antioch Baptist Church at the age of fifty five years, and could say “I have fought a good fight; I have kept the faith; henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness.”
 Besides the faithful wife and children, he leaves a host of friends to mourn his death.

FRANCES ELLEN LAWS

    Frances was born August 30, 1874 in Mercer Co., MO.  She married a widower, John Matterson LANKFORD,  and they had at least eleven children.  John had two children by his previous marriage.  Frances died Dec. 23, 1940 in Spickard, MO.

J. M. Lankford Dies
At Home In Spickard

 John Matterson Lankford of Spickard died at his home there Sunday.  Funeral services were held from the Pine Church Tuesday afternoon, being conducted by the Rev. V. F. Walker.
 Mr. Lankford was born Nov. 11, 1868, in Kentucky and came to Missouri when a boy.  He spent the remainder of his life in Mercer and Grundy counties.   He was married to Carmels McKay in 1889 and they became the parents of two children, one of whom died in infancy.
 In 1893 he was married to Frances Ellen Laws.  They were the parents of eleven children, two of whom died in infancy.  Mrs. Lankford died four years ago.
 Mr. Lankford is survived by ten sons and daughters.  Mrs. Noble Vanderpool, Farmersville; Mrs. Nona Fiddler and Mrs. Richard Simpson, Des Moines; Mrs. Raymond Neff and Ervin Lankford, Spickard; Mrs. Russell Ratliff and Ralph Lankford, Trenton; Mrs. Elgin Turner, Cainsville; Pvt. Lester Lankford, Ft Lewis, Wash. And Pvt. Clifford Lankford serving overseas.
 He is also survived by two brothers, William and Fountain Lankford, Des Moines and two sisters Mrs. Alice Hufatt, of Des Moines and Mrs. Maude Shanks, St. Louis.  He has eight grandsons serving in the armed forces.

OLA ANN LANKFORD


 Ola was born Nov. 1, 1895 in Mercer Co., MO.  She married Noble Vanderpool and they had ten children.  Noble died Aug. 4, 1960 at the Veterans Hospital, Kansas City, MO.  Ola died Sept. 13, 1983 in Bothwell Hospital, Sedalia, Pettis Co., MO.  They are both buried at Crown Hill Cemetery.

 Ola Ann Vanderpool, 88, of 1105 West Third, died Tuesday morning at Bothwell Hospital.
 She was born Nov 1, 1894 in Mercer County, Mo. daughter of Matt and Frances Laws Lankford.  On April 20, 1919, in Mercer County, she married Noble Vanderpool. who preceded her in death.
 Mrs. Vanderpool was employed at the Marshall State School until her retirement in 1960 She was a member of the Tenth Street Baptist Church, Trenton, Mo.
 Survivors include three sons, Ralph Vanderpool, Marshall, Frank Vanderpool, Carthage, MO, Jerry Vanderpool, Route 7; five daughters, Lorraine Carson, 1105 West Third, Letha Blehm, Cashion, Okla.; Dorothy Carver, Windsor; Doris Martin and Lois Vanderpool, both of Redfield, Iowa; one brother. Lester Lankford, Trenton; three sisters. June Turner, Nellie Wayman and Clara Ratliff, all of Trenton.
 Funeral services will be held at 2 p. m. Thursday, at the Ewing Funeral Home with the Rev. C. H. Bowman officiating.
 Pallbearers will be Vergel Tharp, Roy Simpson, Marvin Simpson, J. B. Vannoy, Junior Lankford and Doug Bohon.
 Burial will be in the Crown Hill Cemetery.
 Visitation will be held from 7 to 8:30 p.m Wednesday at the funeral home.

 Noble Vanderpool, 64, World War I veteran of Marshall and former resident of Sedalia, died at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Kansas City at 9:06 a. m. Saturday.  He had been a  patient at the hospital for the past month and had been in failing health for the past 18 months.
 He was born at Mill Grove in Mercer County, Nov. 11 1895 the son of the late Alex and Ettie Oatman Vanderpool.
 He was married in Mercer County, A pril 20. 1919, to Miss Ola Lankford. They were the parents of nine children.
 Mr. and Mrs. Vanderpool lived most of their married life at Trenton, MO, coming to Sedalia 12 years ago where they lived until five years, ago when they moved Marshall.
 Mr. Vanderpool is survived by his wife, Mrs. Ola Vanderpool, four sons; Ralph Vanderpool, Marshall; Frank Vanderpool, Sedalia; Kenneth Vanderpool, Cashion, OK; Jerry Vanderpool, Columbia; five daughters, Mrs. Lorain Campbell, Trenton; Mrs. Letha Blehm, Cashion, OK; Mrs. Doris Martin, Redfield, IA; Mrs. Dorothy Carver, Marshall; Miss Lois Vanderpool, Enid, OK; one brother, Lloyd Vanderpool, Trenton and 19 grandchildren.
 Funeral services will be held at Reorganized Church of Later Day Saints, Marshall, at 2 p. m. Monday.  The Rev. Hurbert Ridge, pastor of the church will officiate.
 Burial will be in the Crown Hill Cemetery.
 The body is at the Ewing Funeral Home.
 

RALPH OBERN LANKFORD

    Ralph was born February 10, 1898 in Mercer Co., MO.  He married his 1st cousin Amber Agnes Holt June 12, 1934.  They had two children.  Ralph died July 21, 1972 in Trenton, MO.

 Ralph O. Lankford, 74, died at 7:15 o’clock this morning at his home at 205 Ellison St., Trenton.
 Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p. m., Sunday from the memorial chapel of the Blackmore-Whitaker Funeral Home.  The Rev. Don Reynolds, pastor of the Tenth Street Baptist Church, will officiate.  Burial will be in the Resthaven Memorial Gardens, north of town.

 Mr. Lankford was born Feb. 10, 1898, in Mercer County, the son of John and Ellen Laws Lankford.  On June 12, 1934, he married at Trenton to Miss Agnes Holt.  They lived their entire married lives in Grundy Co.  For many years, he was employed as a saddle maker for the Veach Saddlery Co.  He was a member of Grand River Lodge, No. 52, IOOF.
 Survivors include his wife, Agnes, of the home; one son Bill Lankford; one daughter, Peggy, now Mrs. Charles Meek, both of Trenton; five sisters, Mrs. Ola Vanderpool of Sedalia, Mrs. Ada Adcock, Mrs. Jane Turner and Mrs. Nellie Wayman, all of Trenton, and Mrs. Clara Ratliff of Brimson; two brothers, Lester Lankford of Spickard and Clifford Lankford of St. Joseph; and two grandchildren.

    Ervin was born May 8, 1900 in Mercer Co., MO.  He married Effie L. ?? and they had two sons and three daughters.  Effie was born June 23, 1904 and died Feb. 1978, Ervin died Feb. 28, 1958, both in Trenton.

    Ada was born Oct. 26, 1902 in Mercer Co., MO.  She married Richard Simpson, Aug. 16, 1919 and they had eight children.  In 1950 she married Clarence O. Adcock.  They did not have any children.  She died Sept. 1982 in Trenton, MO.

 Mrs. Adcock was born on Oct. 26, 1902, in Mercer County, Mo., a daughter of John M. Lankford and Frances Ellen (Laws) Lankford. In 1918, she was married at Spickard to Richard Simpson, He preceded her in death. She was married at Clarinda, Iowa, in 1950 to Clarence O. Adcock. who died in June 1970.
 Mrs. Adcock had lived in Spickard, Trenton and lived in Iowa for a time.  She was a member of the Tenth Street Baptist Church and the Retired Senior Volunteer Program.
 Survivors include five sons, Virgil Simpson and William O. Simpson, both of Des Moines, Iowa; Roy Simpson of Trenton, Marvin Simpson of Spickard and Fred Volcke of Sioux Falls, S.D.; two daughters, Donna Stoll of Lost Nations, Iowa, and Ann Sheffield of Rogers, Ark.; four brothers. Ralph, Irvin, Lester and Clifford Lankford, all of Spickard; four sisters, Ola Vanderpool of Sedalia, Jane Turner of Trenton, Nellie Wayman of Trenton and Clara Ratliff of Brimson; 20 grandchildren, and 23 great-grandchildren.
 One daughter. Minnie Ellen Simpson, died at birth.

    Jane was born March 24, 1905 in Mercer Co., MO.  She married Elgin Turner, they had two children.  Elgin died Dec. 29, 1980 in Trenton, MO and Jane died Dec. 3, 1994 both in Trenton and both buried at Resthaven Cemetery, Trenton, MO.

 Mrs. Turner was born March 24, 1905 near Mill Grove, in Mercer County, Mo., the daughter of J.M. (Matt) and Frances Ellen Laws Lankford. On Nov. 17, 1934, she was married to Elgin L. Turner at Trenton, Mo.
 Mr. and Mrs. Turner lived in the Cainsville and Spickard communities until 1954 when they retired from farming and moved to Trenton. Mr. Turner died Dec. 30, 1980.
 Mrs. Turner was a member of the Baptist church.
 Survivors include one daughter, Irene Turner of Trenton; one son, Jack Turner of Springfield, Mo.; one sister, Clara Ratliff of Trenton; nine grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; and three great-great grandchildren.
 Besides her parents and husband, Mrs. Turner was preceded in death by four brothers and four sisters.

Retired Farmer, E. Turner, Dies

 Elgin L. Turner, 71, died about 3:30 p.m. Tuesday in his home on South Main St.  He was a retired farmer.
 Funeral services will be conducted at 1: 30 p.m. Friday at the First Baptist Church, with the church pastor, Dr. A . L. Palmer, officiating. Burial will be in Resthaven Memorial Gardens. north of Trenton. The hotly is at the Blackmore-Whitaker Funeral Home.
 There is no family visitation scheduled at the funeral home. Mr. Turner was born Aug. 13, 1909, in Mercer County, a son of Jack and Alta Palmer Turner.  He was married to Jane Lankford on Nov. 17, 1934, at Trenton.
 After their marriage Mr. and Mrs. Turner farmed west of Spickard for several years.  They later moved to Cainsville, where they farmed for a number of years, then moved back to the Spickard community and farmed until Mr. Turner retired 14 years ago.  They then moved into Trenton.
 Survivors include his wife, Jane of the home; onc daughter, Irene Tuttle of route 4, Trenton; one son Jack Turner of Ludlow; three brothers Virgil Turner and Ira Turner, both of Cainsville and Eldon Turner of Mt. Moriah; one sister Loraine, now Mrs. Barney Shanholtz, of Independence; nine grandchildren, and one great grandchild.
 Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Everett Turner.

 Mr. Lankford was born April 26, 1907 near Mill Grove in Mercer County, MO, the son of John M. And Frances Ellen Laws Lankford.  He was married to Garnet Moore on March 18, 1961.
 Mr. Lankford farmed in the Spickard community all his adult life.  He retired in 1964, and he and his wife moved to Spickard.  They moved to Trenton in 1983.
 Mr. Lankford was a member of the Tindall Christian Church and the Trenton IOOF.
 Survivors include his wife, Garnet of the home, a foster son, Kenneth Sterling of Trenton, three sisters,  Jane Turner and Nellie Wayman of trenton and Clara Ratliff of James port; two foster grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

NELLIE M. LANKFORD

    Nellie was born Jan. 9, 1910 in Mercer Co., MO.  She married Raymond Neff and he was killed in WW II.  On Jan. 9, 1946 at Chillicothe, MO she married Harlan Wayman.  Harlan was born July 7, 1917, he died April 22, 1985 and Nellie May 5, 1988, both in Trenton.  Nellie and Raymond had two children.

 Clifford was born Aug. 29, 1914.  He married Katheryn Persell Dec. 23, 1938.  They had three daughters.  He died Sept. 9, 1980.

DIES at WRIGHTS

 Clifford E. Lankford died at 4:41 p.m. Tuesday, shortly after arrival at Wright Memorial Hospital, after suffering from a heart attack at his home at 1810 Merrill St.  He was 66 years old.
 The body is at Blackmore-Whitaker Funeral Home where it will remain until 9:30 a.m. Friday, when it will be taken to the Tenth Street Baptist Church to lie in state until service time at 3 p.m.  The church pastor, the Rev. Don Reynolds will officiate.  Burial will be in the Half Rock Cemetery.
 A family visitation is scheduled from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
 Military graveside services will be conducted by members of Joseph L. Norton Post No. 919, Veterans of Foreign Wars.
 Mr. Lankford was born in Mercer County on August 29, 1914, a son of John M. and Frances E. Laws Lankford.  He was married to Miss Kathryn Persell on Dec. 23, 1938.  He farmed in the Spickard area after their marriage and later worked for Trenton MFA Exchange for 10 years.  They later moved to St. Joseph, where he was custodian of Missouri Western College until he retired in 1972.
 A veteran of World War II, he was a member of Tenth Street Baptist Church of Trenton.
 Survivors include his wife, Kathryn of the home, three daughters, Mrs. Helen L. Roberts of St. Joseph, Mrs. June Harrison of Trenton, and Miss Lana Lankford of the home; one foster daughter, Mrs. Janet Belven of Trenton; one brother, Lester Lankford of Spickard; five sisters, Mrs.Nellie Wayman, Jane Turner and Mrs. Ada Adcock all of Trenton, Mrs. Ola Vanderpool of Redfield, Iowa and Mrs. Clara Ratliff of Brimson; and four grandchildren.
 Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers and a half sister.

    Clara was born in 1917.  She married Russell Ratliff.  It is not known how may children they had.

    George Robert HOLT was born November 6, 1854.  He married Allie Victoria LAWS April 3, 1879 and they had four children.  George was widowed and Sept, 5, 1895 he married Elizabeth LAWS, they had six children.

 George R. Holt, 82 Dies near Newtown

 George R. Holt, 82 years old and a well known citizen of the county, died Saturday at the home of his son, Leslie Holt, near Newtown.  The funeral was held Sunday from the Baptist Church in Princeton, being conducted by the Rev. V. F. Walker.  Burial was in the Harris Cemetery.
 George R. Holt, a son of Pleasant and Margaret Holt, was born in Mercer County Nov. 6, 1854.  He was married to Allie V. Laws, April 3, 1878, and to them were born four children.  Mrs. Holt died in 1892, and Mr. Holt was married to Elizabeth Laws Sept. 5, 1895.  To them were born six children.  She preceded him in death in 1927.
 Mr. Holt united with the Baptist Church in Harris, Oct 20, 1918, and was a faithful member until his death.
 He was preceded in death by two children.  Those who survive are W. A. Holt, Kuna, Idaho; Roy Holt, Moscow, Kansas; Leslie Holt, Newtown; Emmett Holt, Meridian, Idaho; Robert Holt, Liberal, Kansas; Lyle Holt, Newtown; Mrs. Agnes Lankford, Trenton.  He is also survived by twenty-two grandchildren, three great grandchildren and one brother, R. M. Holt, of Moscow, Kansas.

    Charles was born Feb. 27, 1882.  He married Katie Elle GLEASON Aug. 23, 1911 in Liberal, KS.  They had five children.  Charles died June 1971 in Moscow or Liberal, KS.  Katie was born Sept. 11, 1888 and died Aug. 1975 either in Liberal or Santana, KS.

    Walter was born Sept. 6, 1883 in Mercer Co., MO.  On July 22, 1911 he married Anna Ruth BLACK, they had five children.  Walter died Nov. 19, 1918 in Mercer Co., MO and Anna died in 1950.

 Goldene was born Oct. 10, 1912 in Mercer Co., MO.  On April 17, 1937 Goldene married Bill Argo in Princeton, MO.  Bill was born July 2, 1916 and died Dec. 25, 1998 in El Dorado Springs where he is also buried.  They did not have any children.

 Thelma was born Aug. 7, 1914 in Mercer Co., MO.  Thelma married Frances Edward King.  They lived in the Princeton, MO area where he farmed.

    William  was born July 31, 1888 in Mercer Co., MO.  On Sept. 7, 1915 he married Alameda GLEASON, they had two children.  William died March 4, 1985 and Alameda died in May 1972, both in Meridian, ID.

JERRY DALE HOLT

    George was widowed October 14, 1894 and remarried Elizabeth Ann Laws September 5, 1895.  They had six children.

 Leslie M. Holt, 75, of Princeton died July 13 at the Axtell Hospital.  Funeral Services were held July 16 at the Greenlee-Martin Chapel with the Rev. I. W. Whitecome officiating.  Burial was in the Resthaven Memorial Gardens north of Trenton.
 Mr. Holt was born in Mercer County, a son of George and Elizabeth Holt.  He was married to Coy Stamper who died in 1923.  In 1929 he was married to Dollie M. Harrington who survives.
 Mr. Holt was a member of the Baptist Church at Harris and was a retired farmer, having lived in Princeton the last 20 years.
 Survivors are his wife of the home; one son Leslie J. Holt of Kansas City, Kansas; five brothers, Lyle Holt, Liberal, Kansas; Emmett Holt, Keena, Idaho; Alfred Holt, Meridian, Idaho; Bob Holt, Welda, Kansas; Roy Holt, Garnett, Kansas and one sister, Mrs. Agnes Lankford, Trenton.
 

EMMETT DANIEL HOLT

    Emmett was born Feb. 15, 1898 in Mercer Co., MO.  He married Florence REYNOLDS.  They lived in Keena, Idaho part of their lives.  He died Sept. 15, 1985 in Keena, ID.  Nothing more is known about this family at this time.
 

ALTA ELIZABETH HOLT

    Alta was born about 1900 in Mercer Co., MO and died Nov. 1918.

GEORGE LESTER HOLT

    George was born Nov. 5, 1904 in Mercer Co., MO.  On May 12, 1929 in Liberal, KS  he was united in marriage to Margaret Emma Brown.  He died Jan. 27, 1992 in Richmond, KS.  They had 10 children.

JAMES LYLE HOLT

 James was born in Mercer Co., MO.  He married Dorothy Shumake Dec  8, 1943.  He died April 4, 1986 in Liberal, Kansas.  It is not known if they had any children.
 

AMBER AGNES HOLT

AGNES LANKFORD Obituary from the
Trenton Republican-Times, Trenton, MO Wednesday, August 24, 1988

Mrs. Agnes H. Lankford, 77, was found dead early this morning, Aug. 24, 1988, in her home at 295 Ellison St., Trenton.  Death occured Tuesday morning and was attributed to natural causes.
 Funeral arrangements are pending at the Blackmore-Whitaker Funeral Home.
 Mrs. Lankford was born Oct. 10, 1910 in Seward Co., KS, the daughter of George and Elizabeth Laws Holt.  She attended schoolin Kansas and taught one year in a school near Liberal, Kansas.  She was married to Ralph O. Lankford on June 12, 1934 in Trenton, MO.  He died July 21, 1972.
 Mrs. Lankford was employed as a bookkeeper for the McVay Motor Company in Trenton for 25 years before she retired.  She was a member of the Tenth Street Baptist Church.
 Survivors include one daughter, Peggy, now Mrs. Charles Meek, of Trenton; one son, Bill Lankford of Fulton, IL; one brother, Bob Holt of Welda, Kansas and six grandchildren.
 Besides her parents and husband, Mrs. Lankford was preceded in death by one sister and seven brothers.

RUFUS MARION HOLT

    Rufus Marion HOLT was born about 1857 in Mercer Co., MO.  He married Rebecca J. LAWS.  In the 1900 Mercer Co., census he is living at home and listed as a widower.  He died in 1938.

ISAIAH G. HOLT

     Isaiah G. HOLT was born April 8, 1860 in Mercer Co., MO.  He married Mary E. ADAMS Nov. 22, 1888 in Sullivan Co., MO.  It is believed he died Mar. 3, 1889.  Nothing more is known at this time.

MARGARET ELIZABETH HOLT

     Margaret Elizabeth HOLT was born in Jan. 1865.  About 1882 she married her step brother Daniel Michael.  Elizabeth died about 1936.

     Henry born April 1888.  Nothing more is known at this time.
 

CHARLES MICHAEL

     Charles Born Mar. 1892.  Nothing more is known at this time. May have died in Moscow, KS, June 1972.
 

ELMER MICHAEL

    Elmer perhaps born 1893-1898 and died before 1900.Nothing more is known at this time.

HULDA J. MICHAEL

    Hulda J. born Sept. 1899.   Nothing more is known at this time.
