Editors Note

In this and coming issues of the Newsletter, we will be focusing on the Interest Groups. Linda Montgomery has agreed to visit several different groups and write about them.  We also want to have more material written by members, but we need your input. Perhaps you have a good/funny/interesting story to tell, or you may know of a good book you would like to share with members. Do not be concerned about writing in proper English grammar, because we can always find an editor or English language consultant to help.

I would personally like to thank Lila Locksley for her great contributions and professional touch to the newsletter in the past two years. It has been a fantastic experience working with Lila, learning from her, and being a part of her team.

Announcements and Advertising

Housekeeper Available

For the past two years Olga Leykina has worked for us as a housekeeper. Olla works hard and efficiently, quietly going about her work. She is incredibly honest, has a gentle spirit, and is conscientious (she has never missed a day or been late). Olla speaks a little English and is very willing to take on any task that you ask of her. I recommend her without reservation. If you are interested or would like further information please contact Sandra Schlaepfer 232-1494  nickels@belgium.acnielsen.com or call Colleen Joerchel 928-5568.

Nanny/Housekeeper Available

Sveta has worked for us for the past nine months. She is absolutely wonderful with our children and a great housekeeper,  too. Sveta enjoys taking our kids to visit local children's attractions and she actively plays with them in the park. She will truly be missed by our family. We will be leaving in mid-June and Sveta is available beginning in July. Please contact Teresa Conboy at 967-3870 or tnt@online.ru for more information.

Come join the Moscow Oratorio Society

We ask you attention for the new fall season of the Moscow Oratorio Society. It is a choir that has existed for six years under the leadership of conductor Alexander Tsaliuk, a greatly talented professional conductor. The Oratorio Society, however, is composed exclusively of amateur singers, who are brought together solely for the love of good and beautiful music. We perform concerts every year, the proceeds of which go to local charities. We are still open for new members, partially because the choir divided into two parts last spring. Rehearsals will be held on Wednesdays in the American Embassy from 7 - 9.30 p.m. We meet at 6:45 p.m. at the Embassy North Gate (M. Krasnopresnenskaya). For more information or to sign up, contact Marlena Hurley at 728-5527 after 19:00, or on weekends, or at 776-67-34 at any time. Or, by e-mail: marlenahurley@hotmail.com

Excellent Energetic Cleaning Lady

Nadia has been working for us for two years. If you need a person who could in one day clean your apartment from the top to the bottom - you need Nadia - honest, reliable and hard-working woman.  She is excellent in ironing (so my husband says!), can help you to deliver/pick up cloths to dry-cleaner, check the house and water the plants during your absence. Nadia is working for us one day per week and looking for a part-time job (1-3 times per week). Nadia can be contacted  directly by telephone 8-234-153-40 (in Russian). For reference call Helen Ernst at 937-7717.

IWC Charities Office

Open every Monday,

1 p.m. - 2 p.m.

Dmitriya Ulyanova, Ul. #3

Room 210 (on 2nd floor

over the Bibliotecka)

Donations

A donations "hot-site" has been set up which attempts to link donors and recipients with each other, in an attempt to streamline the process and hopefully make it easier for companies and individuals to identify particular needs. If you are interested, check out www.online.ru/people/donation  or send an email to donation@online.ru. The existing donations system run by the Charities Group remains unchanged, and the office is open for your donations of clothing, toys, kitchen equipment etc on Mondays between 1-2 pm. Right now we are particularly in need of warm coats and boots.

Attention

This month's Charities General Meeting was held at the Canadian Embassy on
October 18th, due to the School holidays. There will be no meeting next week.

Decorating materials required...

for the Centre of Adaptation of Orphan Graduates. This centre is desperately in need of donations in the form of paint, paintbrushes, wallpaper and all renovation materials. The graduates of the orphanage are renovating the Centre themselves, and they have completely run out of funds. We already supply them with basic foodstuffs, but they need the materials to complete the renovation.

Comments
1 I am impressed with the selection
2 Thanks! It is a great club!
3 General Meetings  seem a bit uninviting, especially to newcomers or others  who are not already acquainted    with many of the members. Perhaps a short program or some sort of explanation on how things work would    be helpful.
4 I was actually pushed out of several lines to sign up for stuff. It took a lot of strength and persistence just    to sign up for stuff. Maybe you could have a different area for newcomers to sign up. I was trampled.
5 I think you guys are doing great!  So organized, so friendly.
6 Thanks for the great organization!
7 Architecture/Art groups are excellent!
8 Some stands had no information at all therefore it was hard to decide what to do     9 Congratulations on a job very well done.
10 Thank you all for the perfect opportunity to enjoy the company & life.      11 As usual, good mix of activities
