Civilian Data: (22 August 2000). Thomas Matison McNeely was born 21 February 1837 on his fathers plantation in Kisatchie, Louisiana, son of Thomas Sr. and Susannah (Grubb) McNeely. Thomas married in the summer of 1853 to Mary Jane Carnahan, daughter of a prominent Central Louisiana family. After the hostilities, he came home and started to rebuild his plantation which had suffered greatly from ravages of war and the reconstruction problems later. These tragic events along with others led to a very interesting story about Thomas Matison, which can be viewed in our Veterans Section. About one month after filing for a Louisiana pension in 1913, Thomas passed away and is buried in the Susanville, Lassen County, California Cemetery. It appears that an application for pension benefits is on file for Thomas McNeely and/or his wife/widow in the Archives in Baton Rouge. The pension was denied because he was living out of state at the time. For a detailed story about the life and times of Thomas Matison McNeely, check out his page in our Veterans Section.
Additional Information: (15 May 2004): My grandfather was the youngest of three children born to them. His name was Mitchell Matison McNeely. Information supplied by Ethel McNeely Wilmesmeier
