A check of the records indicates that there is an application for a Confederate Pension on file at the Archives in Baton Rouge in the name of Maux, Onesime and contains some 12 pages of information. Additional variations of the his name listed on military records are: Meaux and Moyeux. He is also listed as having served in Co. E., of Fournet's Battalion as well as serving in Co. I. of the 18th Louisiana. A burial site is listed for Onezime Maux at the St. Mary Catholic Church Cemetery (Old Kaplan Road), Abbeville, Vermillion Parish, Louisiana.

Meynier, Charles, Corpl. Co. K, Consolidated 18th Regt. and Yellow Jacket Battn. La. Inf. Roll for Jan. and Feb., 1864 (only Roll on file). En. March 17, 1862, St. Martin. Remarks: Present.
Civilian Data: (14 July 2001) Charles Meynier served with the Consolidated 18th Louisiana Infantry Regiment in Co K. There is a strong indication that he also served earlier in the war in the Army of Northern Virginia and quite possibly participated in one or both of the Battles of Bull Run (First or Second Manassas). Though muster roll records currently have eluded the family search --some evidence does exist to help in this assumption. The family evidence consists of a bone handle dagger wrapped in a handwritten note from my grandfather that states, "This dagger was taken from a union soldier by my father Charles Meynier at Bull Run..." Charles Meynier survived the war and lived in the New Orleans area until his untimely death in the 1920's. He apparently was hit and killed by a streetcar in New Orleans. The exact location of his final resting place is unknown but believed to be the Metairie Cemeteries located at the foot of Canal Street. According to a search of the Pension Application Records at the Archives in Baton Rouge, there is an application for Confederate pension benefits in the name of Charles Meynier which consists of some six pages of information. The above information was most kindly contributed by the Great grandson to the late Charles Meynier, Joseph C. Meynier III, Major USMC.

Richard, Placide (Fabien), Pvt. Co. K, 18th La. Inf. En. Jan. 6, 1862, Camp Benjamin. Rolls May, 1862, to Aug., 1862, Present. Rolls Jan., 1863, to June 30, 1863, Deserted at Camp Qui Vive, Dec. 25, 1862.
Civilian Data: Placide Fabien was a farmer by trade. He was married to Elisa Pauline "Toutote" Marcantel on August 17, 1859. Their marriage produced six children: Marie Alzina, Eline, Placide, Jean Baptiste Gustave, Ena ,and Anastasie. Placide Fabien survived the war. His date of death is not known nor is his final resting place known. However, it is believed that he is buried in the Richard private cemetery north of Eunice, just off of Hwy. 13 and located about halfway between Eunice and Mamou, known today as Lans Mege, Evangeline Parish, Louisiana.

An interesting family folklore tale regarding Placide Fabien Richard has been told to this researcher by my father, Sidney. The tale with regards to a sword that was hanging in the home of his Grandfather Placide (the son of Placide Fabien). The sword was described as being a straight sword, contained in a black (leather? or could possibly have been metal) scabbard which was hanging over a doorway. He (Sidney) was never allowed as a child to touch the sword. The only occasion he remembers seeing the sword drawn from its scabbard was when an uncle took it down and removed the sword to inspect it showing it to him. Family folklore has it, that when the 18th Louisiana came upon the federal camps (Ohio?) early in the morning of the first day of Shiloh, they spent some time eating breakfast (which was prepared just prior to their arrival -- how nice of the yankees to prepare breakfast for their guests) and then spent time "liberating" items from the encampment. This is where it is beleived that Placide Fabien Richard may have come upon a war trophey...a foot officers sword. After the death of Placide Fabien's son, Placide, the sword disappeared and is beleived to be now in the home of a Richard relative in the Jennings, Louisiana area. This researcher would truely love to see this sword. It would make the years of research worth the effort.
