Intrigue on the Internet

You can do a few naughty things with the Internet, such as setting up bogus web pages, claiming them to be the pages of others. Thus we have the so-called Jack McConnell, Scottish Finance Minister, web page which states: "The young and strikingly handsome Jack McConnell MSP is Scotland's most successful and highly respected politician since the Blessed Margaret Thatcher uttered the unforgettable words We in Scotland. But Jack McConnell is not just a beautifully browned piece of meat which every adolescent Scottish girl fantasises about. He is also the biggest thing to hit the Scottish intellectual fan since Robert C Nesbitt.

"If you want to learn more about this amazingly talented man, his incredible sun tan, and his good works, enter his web site here." And it then states: "A little about me. I am a really wonderful and talented person and the most handsome Scottish politician that has ever lived. I am also Scottish Minister for Finance which makes me an awfully important person - not quite as important as Big Donald Dewar but much more important than John McAllion. I'm taller than Wendy Alexander and I'm better looking than Henry McLeish - or should that be the other way round? I've more hair than Sam Galbraith and I don't need to shower nearly as often as Jim Wallace.

"My friends are cool - they are almost as cool as me but not quite as sun-tanned - Helen hasn't figured how to unscrew the cap of the Instant Tan Lotion and Big Donald thinks that peely-wally white is statesman like."

Jack has read all this himself but does not believe a word of it. He suspects an SNP plot.
