[ FLUXad ]

Hailed as "Best new artists" by EXCLAIM! Magazine in 1999, FLUXad have a unique sound that is difficult to label. Consisting of pop, electronic, rock, and ambient music, FLUXad succeed in "melding the raw elements of stadium guitar rock with the subtleties of keyboard-driven electronica." The band is known to have poetic lyrics along with electronic pop-like music and dreamy female vocals.

With an LP entitled "Passive Aggressive" released in April of 1999, FLUXad won the hearts of critics and music fans alike. Noisepaper favourable stated the LP was "12 melodic, intelligently crafted, beautifully written pop gems that sparkle and shimmer like light on water." In June of 2000 they released a five-song EP called "Obsessive Compulsive". A second LP is currently in the works.

FluxAD are influenced by bands such as The Beatles and Radiohead. The five-member band started out as a duo, consisting of Bill Majoros (guitar) and Julie MacDonald (guitar) in 1997. Soon after, they added Graham Walsh (keyboards), Tammy Grime (bass), and Joel Stouffer (drums). Noteable bands such as 54-40, Big Sugar, The Watchmen, and Echo and the Bunnymen have shared the stage with this Hamilton, Ontario band.

Their Web site, found at www.fluxad.com, encourages fan interaction by allowing "Tune In Tune Out (Phantom Signal Mix)" to be remixed. There is also a gallery filled with posters and drawings by the talented lead vocalist, Julie MacDonald.

Why was "ad" attached to the end of FLUX?
The "ad" (which is silent) was added to the end of our name to distinguish ourselves from another band from the USA with the name Flux.

what inspired you to name the LP "Passive Aggressive", and then follow up with another disorder, "Obsessive Compulsive"? Will the next album be named after another psychological term?
FLUXad's style of music could be classified as "Passive Aggressive". We vary from very ambient and dreamy to driven loud pop rock. "Obsessive Compulsive" was a remix CD (recorded ourselves on Graham's computer)of tracks from "Passive Aggressive", so the title seemed fitting. I don't think we'll venture on with another psychological term for the next CD.

Is FLUXad more passive aggressive or obsessive compulsive?
FLUXad would probably considered a bit more passive aggressive. We get compared to bands ranging from Portishead to Black Sabbath to Primal Scream. Our temperaments may be a factor too.

How does your art and music tie together?
A few of us are involved with design, painting, graphics etc. As far as our visuals go, we have always tried to make them as representative of our tastes and music as possible. Everything from our stickers, handbills, Web site (www.fluxad.com), buttons, CD artwork, and posters.

What can Windsor expect from FLUXad?
Come to the show and find out!
