interpret: I was going through a really awkward time in my relationship with my girlfriend. Something just did not seem right, but I didn't know what it was. I am pretty sure that she must have noticed that I was getting distanced from her. Well, when I bought Tremolo and heard this song it suddenly hit me. I just wasn't right for her. I really "could never be that man." There were so many things she wanted in a boyfriend (and eventually a husband) that I knew I would not be able to give her.
So I did what I should have done a long time ago: I ended our relationship. Now, I am not saying that Blue Rodeo is the cause of the breakup (since it did effect us both quite harshly), more like they opened my eyes. If I had not heard that song I would have stayed in the relationship........which would have ended in the end anyway.
