Her mamma died at Miami, Florida, of kidney complications, March 16, 1909.
Was brought to Larned for burial. Leone was 3 years old.
When she was 5 years old in Oct. 1910, she was stricken with infantile paralysis
in hips and legs. After care of local doctor for a few months she was put
in hands of osteopathic doctor until March 1911. Took her to St. Louis
under care of Dr. Hoffman a noted specialist in surgery. He chipped
tendons in leg and put her in a cast where she remained for weeks at Bethesda
Hospital. When cast was off, she had a steel brace that she wore during
the day. They following spring they took her again to Dr. Hoffman for a
few treatments. That was all until she was almost through college, when
with recommendation of Dr. Hoffman, she went to Kansas City to Dr. Francisco, he
transplanted muscles from back part of leg to those of lifting muscles on
front. She was in St. Joseph's Hospital. Her father was always with
her through all of these treatments.
She took High School at Larned. One semester of college work at Lindenwood,
St. Charles, Mo. and 4 years at Washburn in Topeka where she and Rella both
graduated. Rella and Leone both went to New York City. In June 1929,
Leone joined a European "Travel Tour" and sailed on the S. S.
Minnekahda for London. Arrived at London on July 8, 1929. Remained
for 7 days; then to Brussels, Amsterdam, Cologne, on the Rhine,
Heidelberg, Lucerne, Milan, Venice, Florence, Naples, Rome, Genoa, Paris,
Boulogne. The party sailed from Boulogne Aug. 24 on S. S. Minnesota due in
New York, Sept. 1, 1929. But Leone did not come with them. She
stayed in Paris to attend the University. After 2 months, she got homesick
and sailed for home. Rella met her at New York City. Leone went the
next year to San Antonio, Texas, where she had a gift shop; then a loan
library. She met her husband there and was married Sept. 6, 1934 to Hilmer
Luetcke. They went to housekeeping in San Antonio but last spring moved to
Hutchinson, Kans. and bought a home. He is an auditor.

Paul Kitch was born June 20, 1918 at Rocky Ford, Colorado. This winter
1937 - 38 he is a freshman in Baylor University at Waco, Texas.
