Prim
Prim
Also called
"Pirma" or
"Bisernica"
Often doubles on the lead or melody parts, aiding the first brac. Used for counter-melodies and obigato parts. Being high-pitched, can be compared to a flute or piccolo. Adds color and brilliance to a tamburitza group.
Usually plays a second or harmony to the first prim. The harmony is usually
lower in pitch than the melody line. Aids in giving brilliance to a tamburitza
group.
Helps to "round out" and give fullness to the prim section. Sometimes plays
counter-melodies with the third brac or by itself.. Also called the "D prim"
because the first string is tuned to D rather than G as in the first and second prims.
