Red XIII, or Nanaki, as he is sometimes called, is another unique character. Yes, if one does not dig very deep, he might be considered a talking cat, or dog, or whatever, but the character is much deeper. Nanaki is an intellectual, albeit a fuzzy one, whose race has protected Cosmo Canyon for eons.

Although he is chronologically around forty-five years old, Red XIII is around sixteen or seventeen in human years. This does not show very often, except when his grandfather is around, but at heart, Red XII is a smart kid with a huge burden on his shoulders.

After his mother died, and his father "left", Nanaki became the last known member of his race alive. This is not explored much in the game, but as you can tell by the picture to the right, he appearantly has kids at some point. I intend to tackle that issue in my fanfic, as it was neglected in the game.

Red XIII is probably the best short range fighter in the game, being stronger than Cloud even, if on the same level. Besides, he makes a really cool roaring sound when he attacks.
