Last year we were at Best Western at exit 60
How to avoid geting stuck in traffic comming back, these can also
be read backwards for going there.
For cheap NJ gas see after Toll below.
Baltimore
Before the Baltimore harbor tunnels
take I-695. If all else fails
go into Baltimore. I did it last year. it only took five minutes extra.
Avoid
the waterfront area.
If you don't have easy pass move to the left
lanes when approaching the tolls
north of Baltimore and south of the Delaware Memorial Bridge. They move
much
quicker when backed up.
NJ TURNPIKE
Listen to AM 880 they give NYtraffic reports on
the 8's or 1010 on the 10's
Northern part only - Car only
versus Car and Truck lanes - The truck lanes always have less
traffic then the car only lanesso
there is less stop and go and on average move faster.
EXIT 7 - the traffic
backs up just north of exit 7. lListen to the traffic reports on these
stations, northern half of turnpike AM 590, southern half AM1610.
BYPASS ROUTE.
Get off at exit 7 get on to Route 130 North
Stay on it for about 1/2 hour (~18 miles) look for NJ Turnpike signs
when
approaching Jamesburg after
passing through Cranbury, You'll be getting on
the TP at exit 8a. The turn is to the right. Follow signs to the
turnpike North bound.
North of Newark Exit 15E
- take the east branch toward the Holland tunnel (the west branch says
GW bridge) it's slightly faster and avoids any Meadowlands traffic.
After Toll and
after Vince Lombardi service center -
GW lower level is faster than upper level when congested
Take Route 46 EAST [Ridgefields, Palisades Part].
Once on RT 46 get gas at the second gas station ater the Grand
Ave exit.there are other gas stations at the topof the hill if you miss
this one.
At top of hill there may be congestion. so if you hit
conjestion take these short cuts as they come up if you get stuck
Exit Main St Fort Lee Leonia -> left on to Maple
-> right on to Main st -> left on to Fletcher -> right to GW
bridge entrance
Exit 9W Fort Lee palisade Pkwy -> exit down hill then back
up -> at traffic light bear to 11 o'clock to reenter bridge
keep going straight.
Once back to bridge if you don't have eazypass stay to
right to get to the fastest lanes
If you miss the RT 46 exit then there is a hill 1.2 mile form the
bridge that usually has traffic. If it
is backed up to the bottom of the hill take the exit at the bottom.
Turn
right at the exit end. Go a few blocks ( to the right side of the
highway
to a traffic light and then turn right to go up the hill parallel to
the
highway on RT 4 (north?). When you get to the top follow signs to get
back to the bridge.
I've only had to do this once.
