George M. "Don" Kelso Jr., 79, of McDonald, died Thursday, October 16, 1997, in his home.

He was born December 25, 1917, a son of George M. and Bessie M. Doughty Kelso Sr.

A 1936 graduate of North Fayette High School, Mr. Kelso attended Slippery Rock College for two years before serving in the Second Armored Division of the U.S. Army during World War II.

From 1945 to 1960, Mr. Kelso worked for the Pittsburgh Coal Co. at its coal washing facility in Robinson Township. In 1960, he started Kelso Trucking and delivered milk until retiring in 1989. Since his retirement, Mr. Kelso worked as a volunteer for the McDonald Meals on Wheels Program.

He was a member of the Bulger VFW Post No. 7218 and had previously been a member of the Raccoon Presbyterian Church in Candor.

Surviving are one brother, Robert A. Kelso of McDonald; one sister, Sara F. Plance of McDonald; two nephews; one niece; eight great nieces and nephews and six great-great nieces and nephews.

Deceased are one brother, Mark D. Kelso; one sister, Betty K. Scott; and one niece.

St. Gabriel's Episcopal Church Cemetery

The cemetery is located adjacent to the church in Douglassville, Amity Township, Berks County, Pennsylvania. The burial ground seems to have been appropriated by common consent by nearby residences and opened without restriction to any family wishing to use it. There are no deeds to the grounds and no established limits. It is believed that the present church buildings and some of the nearby residences are built upon sites of former graves.

"Don" Kelso Jr. of McDonald, who died Thursday, October 16, 1997, will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday in the Nation Funeral Home Inc., 220 East Lincoln Avenue, McDonald, where services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, October 18, with the Rev. Craig Kephart, pastor of the Venice United Presbyterian Church, officiating. Burial in Raccoon Cemetery, Candor. Memorial contributions can be made to the American Heart Association.
