33. Stephen Bloomer Kelso (James Balch , Alexander , Alexander , John ) was born 1837 in Mogantown, Indiana. He died 4 Nov 1888 in Logan Township, Kansas from paralysis.
Stephen Bloomer Kelso (1837 1888) was born in Morgantown and married Sarah J. Thompson in 1858. From 1859 to 1886, Stephen and Sarah had ten children, six sons and four daughters. The children were Clarence, 1859 1939, Henry, b. 1861, James, 1863, Tyna, 1871, Lillie 1874, Olive, 1876, Leroy Maxwell, 1878 1964, Homer, 1881, Mary, 1883 and Herbert, 1886. Roys birth certificate lists his fathers occupation as that of a farmer in Elk Prairie, in Jefferson County Illinois. At some point in the 1880s Stephen and his family moved to Nebraska. According to his daughter Ethel, Roy Kelso had to quit school at about age 15 or 16 and work to help support the family. Stephen died when Roy was just 10, so one can see how that might have been necessary.
Stephen married Sarah Jane Thompson on 1858.
Lois Trenholm writes: " I remember Grandmother kelso was well-formed- straight and tall. When she died at 91 years of age from a broken hip, which developed into pnemonia while in the Hospital, The attending Doctor said he had never seen such a well formed body structure in a person of that age."
"I must tell you that Grandmother Kelso was highly respected in the town where we lived. On Sundays she dressed in dark colors, carried a black satin draw string bag to the presbyterian church. In it she had a bag of whole cloves."
