Some doubt as to whether this correct year of birth as parents were married 24 Jun 1855 according OPR Kilbride. Perhaps this DOB carelessly transcribed from IGI. To be checked.22/7/94: IGI gives a Donald Kerr Logan as being born 10 NOV 1861, with a sister Marion born 14 DEC 1863
According to her brother Angus, Flora was brought up to a large extent by her Logan grandmother at Fuchsia Bank Cottage, Corrie. Flora spent most of her life away from Arran as a professional cook and later housekeeper. At one time she was "lady cook" at St Hugh's College, Oxford and then at Malvern Girls' School. For many years she was employed as a Housekeeper employed in Scone, Perthshire. In the later years of her life, mental illness entailed her hospitalisation at Ailsa Hospital, outside Ayr, where on at least one occasion she was visited by #s27,43 and 6. Flora never married.
Joan Logan, who never married, worked originally ain a girls' Remand Home in Maryhill, Glasgow, and later in George Watson's (boarding) School in Edinburgh. 31. James Kelso
James' daughter, Anne (Lyman) reports some doubt as to year ofbirth and may have been 15 Nov 1881. Following notes are quoted by Anne:-"My father arrived in Canada around 1910 and lived in the interior of BC before coming to the coast. Itis possible he visited with the Donald Kelso family, yes, I believe he did before he came west.
After World War I started, he joined the Canadian army (The Engineers) and went overseas. He was at the Battle of Vimy Ridge and also at the Battle of Ypres. Fortunately he was neither wounded or gassed. He returned to Canada after the war. My mother came to Canada from London (where she had been a nurse) to join her mother, brothers and sisters in Vancouver. She and my father met through mutual friends and were married in 1924... a very nadsome couple. My father was employed by the Western Electric Company which later became the British Columbia Electric Power Company. He was captain of m.v. Ruskin on Stave Lake for the company until his retirement around 1945 (He had a Master's papers for Inland Waters)
Alexander,(Alec or Sandy) served in the Royal Flying Corps/later RAF during 1914/18 War. Subsequently he worked as a chauffeur, lorry-driver, and during the 1939-46 War, at Beardmore's Foundry, Parkhead, Glasgow. Subsequently he and his wife Jean, stayed at Fuchsia Bank cottage, Corrie,(after the death of #138) with #146. He and Jean were very devout Free Church members, and he served as Precentor at Corrie Free Church for a number of years.
William, or Billy as he was known was brought up in Shettleston district of Glasgow, and after attending Uddingston High School, undertook an engineering apprenticeship with Mavor & Coulson Ltd, Glasgow. This was interrupted by his enlistment (volunteering?) into the RAF. After training as an air navigator and being commissioned as Pilot Officer, he was killed when his aircraft was shot down during the massive raid on Nurnberg. Billy became "engaged to be married" shortly before his death.
Anne Lyman writes (1999); "Billy's squadron was stationed in Alberta for a few months of training with the Royal Canadian Air Force. He visited us on his leaves and we were so sad when he had to go back to Britain and were devastated when we received the tragic news that he had been shot down over Germany. His name, number and squadron etc is in a book in asection of records in Westminster Abbey in London. Walt and I saw it whenwe toured the Abbey in either 1989 0r 1990 when we were over visiting Scotland and England"
