John and Elizabeth sold their land in Halifax county in 1771 and moved to Nash county (Nash county was formed in 1777 from Edgecombe county).  Their presumed son Matthew was in Halifax county also and he sold his personal possessions and moved to Nash county where he ran an ordinary at the Court House in Nashville.

  • 1779  bought land in Nash county
  • 1780  ran an ordinary in Nash county
  • 1782  sold his land in Nash county
  • 1785 seen in Edgecombe county2
  • may be the Matthew on the 1790 Bertie county census
  •  may be the Matthew on bastard bonds in Bertie county in 1797   and 1799
  • may have been seen on the 1800 census in Martin county
