Notice her head dress; it's from ancient Ur and has been passed down through her family for generations. If you would like to see a better image of this piece of jewelry and learn something of its history, simply click the button below.

She is the Chief Judge of Babylon by decree of King Nebuchadnezzar II and spends much of her time here reading legal briefs and doing research.

She is a descendant of King Hammurabi and has spent many years studying his code and judicial decisions. She has to be very conscientious because the fifth article of the code of Hammurabi reads as follows:

"If a judge try a case, reach a decision, and present his judgment in writing, if later error shall appear in his decision, and it be through his own fault, then he shall pay twelve times the fine set by him in the case, and shall be publicly removed from the judge's bench, and never shall he sit there to render judgment."

Here is a portion of a stele depicting King Hammurabi receiving enlightment from a god concerning his laws. The bottom portion of the stele contains the cuneiform text of the code.

Below is an image of King Hammurabi presiding at a typical hearing.

She has a law clerk clerk from Jerusalem who came to us during the Babylonian exile. You can see her at the front of the column. Her name is Naomi and we adopted her into our family.
