The yellow poplar grows between 80 and 150 feet in height with a diameter of 3 to 10 feet. The trunk of the yellow poplar is long and straight. The yellow poplar reproduces rapidly.
Leaves are 4 to 6 inches long with 4 lobes. The leaves are dark green in summer and turn yellow in autumn.
The yellow, tulip-shaped flowers appear in May and June. The fruit is 2 to 3 inches long. The seeds are enclosed in the cones and are easily distributed by the wind.
The wood is used for furniture and for interior and exterior trim.
