This was back when Piebald were emo-core. It's damn good. The introduction is just music, everything going together perfectly. "Deflated" starts with a guitar-focused part with quiet singing, that goes into screaming. DE-FLATE... singing in the background. You really must own this to know what I speak of. Everything else on this is good too. It's worth the $7 or less you may have to spend to get it.
Tracks: 1. Introduction 2. Deflated 3. Hillary Dresser 4. Vacuum 5. Time Lost 6. Chris Rodgers

When I first bought this CD I was warned that I wouldn't like it. It was "indie rock" and nothing like "Sometimes Friends Fight." You know what, everyone who told me that was right. I put it in my CD player, listened to the first 3 songs and shut it off. The vocals were too whiney and repetitive, and where was the emo-core off their first CD? Anyway, I put it away in my CD shelf. Two months later I took it out to let somebody borrow it, and I had to listen to it again. Yikes! It was good. Not only was it good, it was fantastic. Maybe it's one of those CD's you need time to adjust to. The whiney singing separates Piebald from some of the other emo/indie bands out there (it's kinda in the Joan of Arc vein, but that's where the music differs). Even though they don't sound at all like their first CD, "When Life Hands You Lemons" portrays their talent very well. With songs like "One Hundred Percent Good," "Our Very Own Employment Office," and "The Sea and a Lifesaver" I don't know how I could not have listened to it for a couple months. Two guitars, a bass, and a drum. Amazing.

Piebald never ceases to amaze me. I've been awaiting the release of this CD for months now (it was supposed to be out in February...it's now June). I was already familiar with "Grace Kelly with Wings", "We Believe in Karma", and "Giddy Like a Schoolgirl" from their live performances. I like how Piebald transfers from one part of a song to the next part. Quiet to loud, slow to fast, soothing to unrelaxing. They even pay homage to the great band Ten Yard Fight: "But now I'm back on track, just like Ten Yard Fight." I love "You Won't Be Seeing Me Again" The guitar make this song sound so completely honest and stripped down for the first 2 minutes of the song. "Mount Pleasant" almost reminds me of Weezer. On this records, Piebald takes a poppier approach, but still keep some of their "When Life Hands You Lemons..." sound. It's good. Buy it.
Tracks: 1. Grace Kelly With Wings 2. We Believe in Karma 3. Mess with the Bulls 4. Dirty Harry and the Thunderbolts 5. You Won't Be Seeing Me Again 6. Rules For Mules 7. Giddy Like A Scoolgirl 8. All You Need Is Drums To Start A Dance Party 9. If Marcus Garvey Dies, Then Marcus Garvey Lives 10. Still We Let It Choke Us 11. Mount Pleasant 12. Location Is Everything 13. Fat and Skinny Asses
