David Burke Forehand

David Burke Forehand enlisted in co. B, 5th Regt. Ga. State Troops Oct. 22, 1861. Appointed 1st Corporal Jan. 28, 1862. Mustered

 out April 1862. Enlisted as a Private in Co. K  32nd Regt. Ga. Infantry ( Alexander Grays of Burke County, Ga.) May 10, 1862.

 Transferred to 1st Battalion Ga. Sharpshooters July 30, 1862. Captured at Decatur, Ala. Oct. 28, 1864.  Sent to Nashville, TN

on Oct. 31, 1864 , to Louisville, KY ,then to Camp Douglas on Nov. 4, 1864. He was released at Camp Douglas June 17, 1865 and

 sent to Albany, Ga. where he began his journey home. He arrived in Burke Co. Ga. where his wife, Amelia Roberts Forehand, and

 nine year old son awaited his return. The family moved to Screven Co. sometime before 1880 where David made his living as a

farmer. David died September 28, 1906 and is buried at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery in Screven Co. Ga.  His head stone bears the

 inscription " He was faithful to every duty"
