"You're going to live in an apartment with Ueda-kun," Kame had been told. He was happy about the idea. Perhaps they could rekindle their friendship.

In the year since their break up, Ueda had changed. He no longer acted as if he knew the rest of the groups were vampires. When told, he had laughed it off. His attitude changed, it was dark, depressed. He was like the friendless teen that had first joined Kat Tun. It was a rare day when Kame saw his ex-lover smile. Ueda also never talked to Kame anymore.

Kame was the last to arrive at the apartment. He hated the fact that he had been so busy at work. At least he now had a few days off to settle in his new apartment. Staff had moved him in, and unpacked his things, but he wanted to see what his new apartment looked like.

It had a large living room/kitchen, and a door for what he assumed was a bedroom. A staircase led up to a loft. The living room was dominated by Ueda's grand piano. He moved to turn on the lights, and found the light bulbs had been taken out of their sockets. Four candles were lined up on Ueda's piano. .

Before the break up, Ueda's candles had always seemed to lend a romantic aura to their dorm room. Now, they gave the place an evil feeling.

Ueda came down the staircase. He was dressed all in black. That too was a change, off work Ueda almost always wore black. Not only that, but he had dyed his hair from their golden hues to jet black. "So you decided to show yourself."

"I was at the studio." He told him.

"You always have an excuse, don't you?" He said coldly.  "I bet this was your idea, wasn't it? Deciding that you had to live in my apartment."

"I don't know what you mean." Kame said honestly.

"This is *my* apartment. I might have to be forced to put up with you, but that doesn't mean I have to like it."

"Understood."

"You can have free access to the kitchen, your bedroom and the rest room. The rest is mine, do you understand?" He ordered.

"Of course I understand."

"Don't' get too comfortable in this place. I'll make sure you'll move out soon."

"Can't we be at least friends?" He quickly added. "For the good of the group."

"For the good of the group."  The walls seemed to fall between them. Ueda lifted the lid of his pianos keyboard and tried a note. "At least they didn't get my piano out of tune."

"Are you still composing?"

"Yes, perhaps when we're finished being Kat tun, I can become a composer."

"Which bedroom is mine?"

"If you want to know who gets the loft, I do." the coldness had returned.

"I don't like lofts." Kame told him.

"Good, I won't have to hear your awful snoring." He said coldly. “Or have to deal with your messes."

"I'll try to keep the place clean." He promised.

"What about your wine collection?" Ueda countered. "You're an alcoholic."

"Perhaps I Am." he agreed.

"What would the agency say if they knew you drank too much? Underage drinking is against the agency's rules." He raised an eyebrow. "You'd be like ....., finding another job!"

"Tatsuya..." He began.

"I'm Ueda!" He snapped. "Stop calling me Tatsuya!"

"I'm sorry."

"You need to give up trying to be nice to me. We'll never get back together.” He headed to the staircase. "Good night Kame."

"Good night."

He climbed the stairs to the loft.

Kame sighed. At least Ueda had agreed to be friends. It had been a difficult year apart from his lover. Ueda's personality had changed. No longer was he warm, instead he was cold and distant.

Kame went to the refrigerator and took out a wine bottle. Ueda thought of him as an alcoholic. He opened the bottle and poured a mug of the deep red liquid. Then he put the bottle back in the refrigerator. Then he took a deep drink of the liquid. He wondered why his friend believed he had wine in his bottles. It was almost as if Ueda had forgotten the truth. That Kame was a vampire.

*********************************

Ueda sat in his new bedroom. He took out the small photo of Kame. He reached out, drawing around his former lover's face with his finger.

'Why can't I stop loving you?" Ueda asked himself.

He sat down in front of his portable keyboard. He reached out and turned it on. They keyboard was the only thing he had left from his relationship with Kame. It had been a gift from Kame for New Years. Ueda began to practice the song. He had written it for Kame after the break up. The barrios in his mind kept him from letting him play it for his ex-lover. But he could close his eyes and pretend that he was playing for his lover. Kame had so loved Ueda's playing.

The memories flooded through Ueda's mind. Of the times after making love, Kame would ask him to play. Ueda had never turned him down. He could still remember how Kame would smile when he played for him. He wished, just once that it could happen again. Though he knew all he would ever have was memories. If only he could play Kazuya's song for him. Perhaps his former lover would understand.

A tear trickled down his cheek. Kame was so close to him now, just down the staircase, but at the same time, so very far. Too far to ever return to him.

The phone's ringing woke Ueda. He picked up his ketai. "Ueda here."

"Have you moved into your new apartment?" the voice asked.

"This is my first night."

"What about him? Is he there?"

"He's in his own bedroom." Ueda had to fight down his fear.

"Which one is your bedroom?"

"It's the loft."

"Good, open the window. I want to visit." Morita ordered.

Ueda went to the window and opened it. Then he turned off his phone. A few moments passed, and then a man climbed through the window. It was his master, and he didn't look happy.

"Why is he your roommate?"

"The agency assigned him. I told them I didn't want him as a roommate, but they didn't listen."

"I'll talk to them. Perhaps I can work something out."

"Thank you master."

"You're still wearing your contacts. Take them out!" Morita ordered. "How dare you pass yourself off as a normal around me?"

"Yes, master." Ueda got his contact case out, and then he took out his contacts. He briefly looked at the mirror revealing his white-blue eyes, the sign of being a mutation.

"Just because you live in the same apartment, doesn't mean you are allowed to get close to him."

"I know that master."

Morita went to Ueda, slapping him hard in the face. "Don't back talk me mutant!"

Ueda held his sore cheek. "I'm sorry."

"You're a mutant! You know the law! You aren't allowed to love!"

Ueda briefly closed his eyes. His master was jealous of Kame's place in Ueda's heart. "We're no longer together."

This time Morita punched him in the mouth. Ueda found himself falling. "You still love him don't you?"

"Yes, I do." He admitted.

"I should turn you both into the enforcers." he sneered. "They'll kill him, you know that!"

"Please Master, don't!" Ueda bowed low. "Do what ever you want to me, but don't tell the enforcers."

"If I find out that he even laid a finger on you. I will drain him myself." he threatened. "I won't leave a drop of blood in his body."

Ueda knew his master didn't make idle threats. He felt tears stinging his eyes. "That will never happen."

"Get up and look at me!" The Master ordered.

Ueda got to his feet. He looked at the smaller man, who grabbed his chin in his hand. Then he felt him enter his mind. It was intrusive, and in a way it hurt. He gasped in pain.

Then just as suddenly, his master left his mind. "Stupid mutant! You know you're not allowed to exist."

"Yes, master."

"I am the one that keeps you alive. If the enforcers found out about you, you would be dead!"

"I am grateful." he lied. As his master kissed his lips, Ueda wished that he was dead.

*********************************

Kamenashi Kazuya had been kept up most of the night by Ueda's visitor. He had wanted to go to his friend, to rescue him. But he felt deep inside that Ueda would be in real danger if he did. He had no idea who the vampire was that called himself Ueda's master. Once he found out, he could turn him into the enforcer. Enslaving a purebred was against the code. He would do as much as he could to save his friend.

Finally near dawn, Kame fell asleep. He woke to the sound of Ueda's piano playing. He opened his eyes, half expecting to see his lover playing the keyboard in his room. The way he had every morning since they had become lovers.  Instead, he was still alone.

Still, he didn't mind the music. Ueda's piano playing comforted him in a strange way, reminding him of the old times. When they used to live in the dorms as roommates. He had over heard the song several times over the year they were apart. The song had always called to Kame's inner soul. He had also heard it the night before. He closed his eyes and promised to help his friend.

He rolled out of bed, pulled on a robe and went to the rest room. He looked at himself in the mirror. He realized that he would have to take out his long wearing contacts. That perhaps it was the only way to help Ueda. He pulled the case out of the drawer and took his contacts off. He placed them in the container then put them back in the drawer. Then he looked at himself again. His eyes now showed their natural color, a deep sapphire.

He went into the kitchen/living room. Ueda didn't look up at him; he was too busy concentrating on the sad, mournful tune he was playing. For the first time since the break up, Ueda didn't look hostile, instead he looked very sad. A tear rolled down Ueda's cheek. He wondered to himself why Ueda would play a song if it made him cry.

"Good morning," Kame told him. He went to the refrigerator and took out a wine bottle. Then he took out a glass, and filled it. He took a large drink.

He could feel Ueda's eyes on him. He turned. His friend was wiping the tears from his face. "Don't you think it's too early to drink?"

"No, I don't." he took another drink.

Ueda stopped playing; he got up and went to Kame. He took the wine glass out of his hand, and set it on the counter. He didn't look at Kame. "I don't want to do this, but I must."

"I don't understand."

"I hunger, I must feed from you." Ueda took Kame's chin in his hand, and turned his face. Kame looked into his eyes. Ueda's hand started shaking. "Are you wearing new contacts?"

"I took my contacts out."

"But your eyes,"

"My eyes are white-blue."

Ueda turned from him. "This can't be. You can't be a mutant."

"I'm a vampire."

If you were a vampire, I would be able to feel you." Ueda paused. "Why did you reveal yourself to me? If the enforcers found out you are a mutant, you'll be killed."

"There's no such thing as a mutant."

"There is! We're both one!" Ueda's voice shook. "We're both in terrible danger. Didn't' your master teach you about the dangers?"

"I don't have a master."

"You have to. Who crossed you over?"

"Both of my parents are vampires. I turned when I was sixteen. You know that." Kame tried to explain. "You helped me through it. You turned before I did."

“I only became a mutant a year ago."

"We became lovers after I turned." He continued. "When I woke, you where playing the keyboards, you looked so beautiful, like an angel. It was then I realized I wanted to spend my life with you."

"Please stop. It isn't true."

"This vampire who claims to be your master has done something to your mind." Kame tried to explain. "You don't remember the truth. Both of your parents are vampires. All of your ancestors are vampires. All of them have your eyes."

"You're lying!" Ueda slapped him hard across the face. "How dare you say that about my family! Their not like me!"

'Take my blood Tatsuya. My blood can't lie."

"Mutants are forbidden to take each other's blood." He said sadly.

"No one will know" Kame tilted his head to the side, to give Ueda more access to his neck.

Ueda lowered his head for a moment, and then he looked up to Kame. His eyes glowed red, his fangs fully extended. His lips moved to his throat. There was a sharp pain, then an ecstasy that Kame had missed. He gasped; his hand went to the back of Ueda's head.

Ueda finally pulled away from Kame. His eyes were confused.

"If I'm not a mutant, why are my eyes blue?" He asked. "Isn't that the sign of a mutant?"

"No, it's a sign that you're a pure bred vampire. That all your family was born vampires, not crossed over." Kame explained. "There isn't anything called a mutant."

"But I can't telepath. Real vampires can."

"You are one of the strongest telepaths I know." he tried to reason. "But your master took it from you."

"Then why can I feel you? My master says that that is proof that I'm a mutant."

"What you feel is our bond." Kame paused. "When we were together we formed a blood bond. It’s something our kind do. It's similar to marriage."

"Are we still bonded?" Ueda sounded as if he finally believed Nakamaru.

"I know I should have gone to a professional bond breaker, but it was all I had left of our love." He looked away from him.

"I can't remember our bond. I want to remember." He looked very sad "Please, help me."

"Of course I'll help." Kame decided to take a chance. He lowered his barriers and let the bond reform.  "I'll always love you,"

Kame could see the Ueda struggling, as if he tried to say the words, but nothing came out.

"What are you trying to say?" Kame asked.

"Koi," Ueda was finally able to say.

Kame tried to guess the meaning. "Are you trying to say you love me?"

Ueda struggled for a second, and then he nodded. A tear rolled down his cheek.

Kame reached out, touching the tears, and then he kissed him. But Ueda stayed still, like a statue.

  He gasped.  "I can't."

"It's okay," he took the Ueda into his arms. His friend couldn't hold him back, but Kame could feel him leaning against him. "I'll get you back. I don't know how, but I will.”

*************************

"Can I call you Tatsuya?" Kame asked him. It was evening. The friends had spent the day together.

"I would like that." Ueda told him. He was sitting on the couch in the living room.

Kame went to the kitchen; he took out a bottle of wine from the refrigerator, and then two glasses from the counter. "Do you hunger?"

"Yes,"

Kame joined Ueda at the couch. He sat down. "How did you feed in the past year?"

"I used Juniors as my cows." Ueda confessed. "I would take their blood, and then hypnotize them into forgetting."

Kame poured two glasses of wine. He handed one to Ueda. 'I think this is a better way to feed."

Ueda put the glass on the end table. "How is it different? All you’re doing is getting drunk on wine. How can that take away the craving?"

'It's not wine." Kame drank from his glass "its blood."

"Mutants aren't allowed to drink bottled blood." Ueda told him. "It's against the code."

"I've told you before, you are not a mutant." He finished his glass.

Ueda tried to fight down the panic he felt. "Kame, you have to be careful. If the enforcers found out you where drinking bottled blood, they will kill you."

Kame looked at him, Ueda felt as if his friend was touching his soul. "You want to go hunting, don't you?"

"I must, it's the only way."

"I know of a place we can hunt." Kame told him.

"You’ll come with me?"

"I'm not going to let you hunt alone." his friend told him. "It's only a two minute fly from here."

"You fly?" Ueda gasped.

"Let me guess, mutants aren't allowed to fly." Kame sounded exasperated.

"No, we're not."

"What are you allowed to do then?" Kame snapped.

"I can hunt, and serve my masters." Ueda told him. "What else is there for me to do?"

Kame got up, he put away the blood. He turned to Ueda. "We'll walk to the park."

***************************

Kame walked with Ueda to the local park. He had tried to hide his temper. He was angry, very angry at what Ueda's master had done to him. He had taken almost everything being a vampire was away from Ueda. Instead, they were going to the old days, before there were refrigerators, when a vampire had no choice then to hunt.

He hated the vampire who had hurt Ueda. He had taken Ueda's memories from him. Ueda honestly believed he was a vampire only a year. He couldn't remember anything about being an inherited pureblood. He believed that he was a mutant.

They walked in silence. Then Ueda spotted a man in his early twenties jogging. His hair was cut in the same haircut as Kame's. Ueda waited for the man to pass.

"What was wrong with him?" Kame asked.

"He looked too much like you." Ueda told him. Suddenly Ueda grabbed Kame and pulled him into the bushes. "I've found a cow. I can smell her blood from here."

"What's here blood type?"

"AB negative." Ueda whispered. "Do you want her, or should I take her?"

"You can have her. I don't like feeding from females." Kame said truthfully.

Ueda went back to the sidewalk. He seemed to accidentally run into the girl. She was in her late teens. Her arms full of books.

"I'm sorry." Ueda helped her pick up her books. "You shouldn't walk through the park at night. It isn't safe."

"It's the easiest way for me to go home from my library."

Kame watched as Ueda chatted with the girl. They walked to a more secluded part of the park. Ueda took the books from the girl. "You are so beautiful."

"Thank you." She smiled.

"Do you have any boyfriends?"

"No, none."

Ueda took the books from the girl. He set them on a near by bench. Then he looked at her, into her eyes. She unbuttoned her blouse, and unfastened her bra. Then Ueda was kneeling, he bit her nipple. The girl gasped and arched back.

When he was finished feeding, Ueda got to his feet. He helped her fasten her bra and then buttoned her blouse for her. Then he looked into her eyes. She nodded, then picked up her books and left.

Ueda walked back to Kame. "You should have her. Her blood is rich."

"I don’t feed from woman." Kame reminded him. "I'm gay."

"What does that matter? A cows a cow."

Kame was surprised by Ueda's harshness about the woman he took the blood from. Ueda had always hated vampires who called humans cows. Now he did it himself.

Kame decided to change the subject. "Why do you feed from the breast?"

"The marks aren't as noticeable there." Ueda shrugged. "That's the only reason."

"I see." Kame said. "Let's go back home."

"Aren't you going to hunt?" Ueda asked.

"No, I really don't feel like it." He said truthfully.

"You have to feed." Ueda reminded him.

"Fine." Kame looked around. He didn't want to feed of a living person, but he had no choice. "You can find me someone to feed from."

'What blood type?"

"I don't care. I just want the person to be male, and under 40."

"I'll find the cow for you." Ueda closed his eyes. Then he opened them. He nodded towards the pathway. A man of European decent was walking. "Will that do?"

Kame got onto the path. He began to walk down it, so that he would pass the man.

"Excuse me, do you have the time?" The man asked in heavily accented Japanese.

"It is ten o’clock." He said looking at his watch. Then he looked at the man. "Do you come here often?"

"I'm new to this city." The man explained. "Is this a good place to find dates?"

"It depends on what you want." Kame said coyly.

"Are you looking for a date?" The man asked. "I can pay the going rate."

So that was it. The man thought he was a prostitute. "I think I can give you what you want."

"How old are you? Thirteen? Fourteen?"

Kame got a lump in his throat. So that was it. The American liked his boys young, very young. He decided to lie.  "I'm fourteen."

He led the man into the bushes. He let the European kiss him, the man ran his hands roughly over Kame's body, stopping at the crotch area. "I want to get inside you."

"Let me take off my clothes." Kame pulled away from the man. He looked into the man's eyes. It was too easy to get him to go under. He shoved the man against the tree and bit him. He drank deeply. The man's blood disturbed him. He enjoyed abusing underage boys. A memory from Kame's past flashed through his mind. Of himself being young and abused.

Kame couldn't let this man go on with his crimes. He hated vampires who murdered their feed, but realized he would have to make an exception in this case. He left the body in the bushes. Hopefully no one would find it until morning.

Kame found Ueda waiting for him by the park's entrance. He would have to lie to his friend. The way he was now, he wouldn't understand Kame's reasons for killing him.

"Are you ready to go?" Kame asked him.

"Did you have your fill?" Ueda asked.

"More then my fill." He glanced back, and then left the park with Ueda.
