Kanjani 8 was sitting around their dressing room. Shota looked across the dressing room to Subaru and Hina. His best friend had a new lover, as bright as the morning sun. That meant that he didn't spend so much time with Shota. The guitarist knew he shouldn't be jealous. He wasn't really. He just wished that love would fall into his lap.

"Isn't that right Yassan?" Ohkura asked him, they where sitting together on a couch.

"Isn't what right?" Shota asked. He was polishing his prized possession. A Red Special replica, made to be just like the guitar used by the famous Queen guitarist Brian May. His big dream had been to go to the guitar seminar run by Brian May in January. But the class was so expensive; Shota knew he would never be able to go.

"It would be really nice if we could play a concert on Christmas night." Ohkura was talking about his wish as he called it. He had the dream since he had inherited a very expensive drum set two years before.

"The whole group?"

"We could be a band." Ohkura smiled. "Everyone can play something. Even Yoko and Hina could play the tambourines."

"Aren't we a band at our concerts?" Shota pointed out gently.

"I mean a real band, a rock group." He looked around. "It wouldn't have the Johnny's agency involved. We could just go and play."

"That would be nice, no agency." Shota agreed.

It would be something small. A club or something." Ohkura continued.  "If I could have one thing for New Years, that's what it would be."

Time passed, and Shota found himself falling for Ohkura. It was a wonderful feeling, as natural as it was to breathe. They hadn't yet crossed the line from friends to lovers. Shota wanted to be sure that his friend felt the same way.

Shota had asked Ohkura to come to his apartment. He wanted to fix his friend some dinner. He hadn't called it a date; he wanted to start dating his friend in small steps.  He had been surprised when the drummer agreed.

Everyone in the agency thought that Ohkura was shy and quiet. He was, until he got close to the person. He had been chattering almost non stop for the past ten minutes.

"So why do you want us to have a private concert?" Shota asked.

"I have always enjoyed the band segments of our concerts." The drummer smiled. "I thought what it would be like if we did something without the agency, without the stupid costumes. We would be a real group then."

"You're right, we would."

"It's just a dream." Ohkura shrugged. "I would have to pay for a venue, and that would be too expensive."

"Why don't you ask the rest of the group to help?"

"How could I ask the rest of the group?" He asked puzzled. "It's my dream, I should pay for it."

Shota looked into Ohkura's eyes. "It's good to have a dream."

"You're right, it is." The taller man blushed a little. That made Shota wonders if his friend liked him too.

The guitarist would do anything to give Ohkura his dream. He looked to the wall. On a special stand was his prized Red Special Replica.  It was expensive. Shota wondered how much he would get if he sold it.

***************

Shota and Ohkura had been good friends since Ohkura had joined V West.  It seemed natural for the pair to spend a lot of time together, talking about music. Ohkura found himself falling for his friend. The guitarist seemed to really enjoy listening to Ohkura's dreams.

Being in Kanjani 8 was wonderful. But Ohkura wanted to be more then that, he wanted to be in a real rock band. Perhaps everyone would take them more seriously if they were a real band at least for a few nights.

The two friends were spending some time at Ohkura's apartment. One corner was dominated by a large custom made drum kit. It was very expensive. Ohkura's cousin had been a famous drummer who had died in an accident. He had left his drum set to his cousin.

"What kind of band would you like to have?" Shota asked him, they where spending a night off together.  "Something like KISS?"

"Well, maybe something more like Glay or Queen."

"Queen?" Shota perked up at the mention of one of his favorite groups. "You could be like Roger Taylor, I could be like Brian May."

 "Who would be Freddie?"

"Subaru?"

Ohkura laughed at the thought of Subaru being the Freddie Mercury of the group.

“If only I could go to the guitar seminar,” Shota sighed. “I might even become better then Brian May.”

The drummer looked at Shota, his friend. He suddenly wanted to give Shota his dream.  Shota wanted to go to the United Kingdom. He wanted to learn to use his Red Special guitar in a group. Perhaps someday, he might be like Brian May. Ohkura had to give him that dream.

Ohkura knew the dream was very expensive. Too expensive for someone who wasn't rich? Then Ohkura looked at his drum set. It was custom made, and worth a lot of money. Perhaps he did have a way to give his friend his dream.

Shota shivered to himself. He had finally been able to grant Ohkura’s wish. But it had cost so much. His prize guitar was gone. The red special replica had been sold to help pay for the rent of the club.

Shota would miss his guitar, but it paid for something more special. His friend would have his dream. He had even arranged it so that all the members of the group would be part of the band. It would be the great time that Ohkura had dreamt about.

Shota ran the doorbell of Ohkura's apartment. His friend opened the door.

"I know it’s early, but I wanted to give you your Christmas present...” Shota stepped into the entryway and held out the envelope to him.

Ohkura opened the envelope. His smile was bittersweet.

"I wanted your dream to come true." Shota told him. "We can be a band for one night. We don't even have to use any of the agency's instruments. I talked the rest of the guys, they'll be in it."

"A band...." A tear rolled down his cheek.

"What is it? Don't you like it?" Shota asked.

"I do, it's just...." Ohkura wiped the tear off his face. "I have something very special for you. I was planning on giving it to you on Christmas day." He went to his coat and pulled out an envelope. "You told me that you wanted to go to the guitar class during our down time."

"The one taught Brian May." Shota felt his heart break a little. "But it's in the UK, and very expensive."

Ohkura handed him the envelope. Inside was a round trip air ticket, and tickets to the two week course. "I wanted you to have your dream Sho Chan."

"Tacchan, how could you afford this?" Shota asked.

"Does that matter?" Ohkura asked softly. "You'll be able to get tips for using the red special from the man himself."

"I can't," A tear rolled down his cheek. "I sold the red special to pay for the gig."

"Why would you do such a thing?"

"I wanted you to have your dream." Shota said in a near whisper. "I'll use my other guitar for your gig."

“Let’s come inside and talk.”

The entry way in Ohkura’s apartment was more like a hallway. Ohkura opened the door and went into the apartment.

Shota quickly changed his shoes.  For the first time, Shota realized the drum kit was gone.

“What happened to your drums?”

“I sold them, for you.”

"What are we going to do?" Shota asked.

"We'll play our gig." His friend went to him, taking his hand and kissing the fingers. "I'll have to rent a drum kit. Then you'll go to your camp."

"But...."

"What I did was because I've fallen in love with you." Ohkura said. "I think you sold your red special for the same reasons."

"I do, I love you." Shota said. "That's why it doesn't matter if I own that guitar."

"Just like it doesn't matter if I own my own drums." his friend smiled. "I received a gift far more important, more precious then the gig I wanted."

"What is that?"

"You," and with that Ohkura kissed Shota's lips. Shota found his arms going around his friend, and he realized that this Christmas he had the best present ever.
