Begin stockinette stitch; be sure to check where you right side cast on edge is and please remember that the brim of the hat will flip up.
Work the stockinette stitch until the entire piece is 6 inches; you can make this longer for a taller crown. End on a purl row.
Decreases
1. *K3, K2tog*; repeat stitches between the stars to the end of the row
2. Work 3 rows of stockinette stitch in pattern
3. *K2, K2tog*; repeat stitches between the stars to the end of the row
4. Work 2 rows of stockinette stitch in pattern
5. *P1, P2tog*; repeat stitches between the stars to the end of the row
6. K across the row
7. P2tog across the row
Cut your yarn about 8 inches from the piece and pull the tail through the remaining stitches, dropping them off the needle at the same time. By pulling the yarn tail tight, you will join the top edges together. Thread the yarn into the tapestry or darning needle and with wrong sides together, sew from the crown down to were the stockinette stitch meets the ribbing. Turn the hat inside out and sew the ribbing so the seam is on the right side (you will flip up the ribbing and conceal the seam).

If you want to adjust the hat, you can make it wider by adding more stitches and longer by increasing the length of the stockinette stitch band before the decreases. Happy Knitting!
