Josh Corriell finally turned the tide against Jimmy Orozco. Once again the two wrestlers were tied at the end of regulation 1-1. Corriell was unable to take Orozco down in the overtime period, but Orozco was unable to do anything against Josh as well. This time Josh got to chose down and with 9 seconds left, he kicked free of Orzco's grasp for the regional title. Josh won a hard fought 9-4 decision over Colby Bruehl of Cashmere in the semi-finals. Josh should do very well at state this year. He has wrestled well against many of the top wrestlers in the state and is getting stronger every week. A top three finish is well within Josh's ability.

Josh Corke again had a close match with McCourtie. But when the match is on the line, no one wrestles better than Josh Corke. With the score tied 2-2 in overtime, Josh bull rushed a stunned McCourtie and got the takedown, but that wasn't it. McCourite gave up and laid flat on his back and Josh was more than happy to take the pin as well. Josh defeated another Othello wrestler Alex Torres 18-4 in the semi's. While one undefeated wrestler fell (Brian Freeman of Connell), Corke was extending his win streak to 30. Josh may be in line for a state championship next weekend.

Junior Gonzalez's winning streak ends at 15, but he didn't give it up willingly. Matt Dillin of Ephrata was his opponent in the final at 130. Dillin scored early and held a 4-0 lead late into the third when Junior exploded for a reversal to make the score 4-2. Though it was too little too late, Junior showed that he can score on the best. He should do well at state next weekend, maybe even bring home a medal.

Brandon Ashley ran into trouble early on saturday as Edgar Mendez came out strong and got the first takedown on Brandon in the semi-finals. Edgar kept the pressure on and pinned Brandon in the second round. Edgar went on to win the title at 103. Brandon then looked like he was in control against Kevin Mitchell. In a scramble, Brandon found himself on his back with his head on Mitchell's back. Mitchell had control of both of Brandon's legs in a cradle type of move. Mitchell was given the pin. Brandon got himself together and came back to beat AJ DeLeon in the 5th place match to advance to state. Brandon will actually have to wrestle a match before the state tournament starts to get into the actual state bracket at 103.

Cody Roos wrestled hard and managed to take 4th place to advance to the state tournament for the first time in his career. After losing to Cody Bucholtz in the semi's, Cody came back to get a pin in the consolation semi's to advance top the consolation finals against Rory Gangle of Naches. Gangle learned something from his district match with Roos and was too much for Cody to handle this time, winning 17-4. If Roos can wrestle at state like he wrestled at district last weekend, he could be in line for a state medal.

Tony Chapin, Kyle Nickerson, Ramon DelAngel and Justin Rolland all took 7th place. Chapin recorded 3 pins in his three wins. Chapin will be heard from again and will likely make a few trips to state before he is done. Ramon lost a tough quarterfinal match to Chris O'Brine of Naches and never recovered. Ramon held a 12-11 lead with just 40 seconds left against Brandon Craven. If he could have held that lead he would be going to state. Craven had other ideas as he put Ramon on his back for a 17-12 win. Nickerson couldn't quite get over the hump this year as he lost to Josue Moreno in the consolation quarterfinals. Kyle had a great career and showed tremendous improvement from his freshman year to his senior year. Justin Rolland picke up a few pins while taking 7th. Justin showed good improvement this year and should be back at regionals next year for another chance at state. Kevin Hunter placed 8th and had another solid year for the Bears at heavyweight. Next year Kevin will once again be challenging for a state spot. Bryce Livesey and Ryan Phipps went 0-2 but gained much needed experience at the regional level.

The Bears take 5 wrestlers to state this year. All of them have a chance to medal. If they can, then the Bears may once again break into the top 10 in the team score. Corke and Corriell showed that they should be considered as serious title contenders. Gonzalez and Ashley will get a taste of state as freshman and it could bring them each a state title in the future. Cody Roos is the only senior going to state. A trip to state should give Roos some memories as he winds down his highschool career.
