Best of the West Results

Junior Gonzalez went 6-0 to lead the Bears to a 6th place in the 23 team tournament. The Bears defeated Pasco JV 57-21 to start the tournament. 9 Bears collected pins against the Bulldog JV.

In the second round the Bears took on Clackamas and built a 28-0 lead. Clackamas fought back into the match and trailed just 34-24 with 4 bouts to go. Kyle Hagins then saved the match with a surprise pin in at 119. The Bears went on to win 44-32.

Newberg was next up and the Bears wrestled them to 9-9 tie through 5 matches. Newberg than swept the remaining 9 matches to win 53-9. Marty Eng and Brandon Ashley wrestled a great match, with Eng avenging a loss to Brandon last season, taking the rematch 3-2.

On Saturday, the Bears started off the morning with Kettle Falls. Ryan Burns started the Bears off on the right foot with a 6-3 victory. The Bears went on to take 9 of the 14 matches and a 49-25 win.

The Colville Indians were next up and the Bears trailed eary. The Indians built a 27-16 lead before the wheels came off. Ross McDorman scored a determined 2-1 victory in sudden death overtime to get the ball rolling for Ki-Be. Jacob Johanns then scored a much needed pin in the 103 bout. Brandon Ashley won a major decision to put the Bears up 29-27. Colville recorded a pin to pull ahead 33-29 leaving the match up to Ryan Corke and Jerry Haug. Corke took care of his man 13-2 to pull the Bears into a 33-33 tie. Jerry Haug then wrestled an inspired match to win 7-2 and give the Bears a 36-33 team win.

The Pasco varsity was the Bears opponent for the 5th-6th place match. Junior Gonzalez and Tony Chapin gave the Bears an early 9-6 lead. Jose Prado and Ross McDorman got back to back wins at 215 and 275 to make the score Pasco 21 Ki-Be 19. The Bulldogs went on to outscore the Bears 21-6 the rest of the way for a 42-25 win.
