Kiona-Benton vs. Connell

The Bears defeated the Eagles for the 4th time in the last 7 meetings between the schools. Ryan Corke got things started with a second round pin of Rueben Orozco to get the Bears off to a 6-0 team lead. Jerry Haug and Ryan Burns wrestled hard, but their Eagle opponents each won decisions to even the score at 6-6.

Junior Gonzalez then completely dominated in his match with takedowns that awed the crowd. He turned Jenks about three times in the third to gain the tech fall. Tony Chapin wrestled a tough Adam Orozco and muscled some late takedowns to pull out a commanding 13-3 win to give the Bears a 15-6 lead.

Larry Metcalf controlled Bryan Prather for most of his match. Larry was leading 4-2 late in the third when Prather got a takedown, seconds before the buzzer, to tie it up and send the match into overtime. Prather attacked for the takedown and the win.

Ryan Phipps gave it his best shot against a very good wrestler in David Rae. In the end Rae tech'd Ryan.

Justin Rolland showed that his victory over Tony Lee at the Newport Tourney was no fluke. Lee came out fired up and actually started before the ref blew his whistle. Once the match was officially started, Lee looked like he was going to tear Justin apart. Lee got the first takedown and kept the pressure on. Justin escaped and gained the lead with a takedown to make it 3-2 at the end of the first. A second period reverse gave Rolland a 5-2 lead. Justin then kept the pressure on a slowly tiring Lee. By the end of the match Lee was exhausted and Justin had backed up his earlier win with another impressive showing.

La came out strong against Tony Davis, recording the first takedown. He wrestled well until Davis turned him to his back a couple times in the second round. The second time for the pin.

Travis Haug and Miguel Zuniga put on a scoring show. By the end of the first round 15 points had been scored, 8 by Zuniga and 7 by Haug. Takedowns, escapes, backpoints, reversals all happened at a furious rate. With the score tied at 14 in the third period Zuniga looked as if he may take over the match. He put Travis in a cradle and attempted to roll him over himself. Travis countered the cradle attempt and the move ended with Travis on top of Zuniga in a head and arm for the remaining minute of the match.
