Kiona-Benton vs. Toppenish

215 - The night was started off with a close match between Britt Samsell and Freddie Osorio. After Samsell was called for stalling Osorio led 3-2 in the 2nd period. It was close until Britt put Osorio on his back for a pin and a short lived 6-0 Bears lead.

112 - After 2 forfeits to Toppenish, Cunningham took to the mat against Josue Gutierrez. Troy got the first takedown and also scored backpoints early in the match to take a 6-1 lead. Josue got a late 2nd period takedown to cut the lead to 6-4, but in the third period Troy reversed Gutierrez and rode tough for the win.

119 - Jake Johanns came out on fire, and a little out of control, against Ocampo. He settled down and dominated the match from the word go. Johanns quickness was put on display in this match as Ocampo did not seem to be able to match Jake's energy level.

125 - Justin Hunt ran into the #4 wrestler in the CWAC at this weightclass in Ignacio Castenada. Hunt gave it a good fight and didn't back down from his opponent.

130 - Jesse Henderson wrestled well and showed some good energy during his match with Gilbert Godinez. Despite the loss it is evident that Jesse is learning more and more about wrestling as the season progresses.

135 - Kyle Hagins showed great determination against Adam Sifuentes, but in the end Sifuentes came out on top with the pin. Hagins did get in some licks with a 2nd period arm bar that had to have Sifuentes wondering if he was going to make it out of the match alive.

145 - The match of the night!!! Landoe and Rodriguez went back and forth scoring point after point. With the score 5-3 in favor of Rodriguez, it looked like Landoe might take the lead on a head and arm, but a scramble ensued and Rodriguez somehow managed 3 points to Landoe's 2 to make the score 8-5. The match was tied at 9-9 in the 3r4 round when Landoe shot a nice looking double leg, and nearly had Rodriguez for the takedown before Rodriguez countered for the takedown and the win. Landoe is probably the most improved wrestler on the squad this year. If Sam sticks to it he could be quite a wrestler.

152 - Devon wrestled a full match and had a chance to win in the 3rd, trailing only 5-4 before Torres got the final takedown for the win. Devon has also improved this year and should get better with more experience.

160 - Fenton's match was close into the 2nd round with Ayala leading 1-0 on a had clubbing violation on Aaron. Fenton scrapped with Ayala for awhile before being pinned.

171 - Johnny Rivera wrestled hard against Guillermo Rodriguez and knows now what it is going to take to get into the upper range of wrestlers at 171. Rivera has great potential and could surprise at district.

JV - Daniel Westerfield seemed to play with his opponent before finally putting the hurt on him with a pin.

The rebuilding year continues, but their are some signs of improvement on this team. If all these guys hang around for a couple more years, the Bears could have a pretty good team in the future.
