Where to scrounge
Most everything needed to keep chickens can be built from
salvaged materials. Here is a list of places to check and what they might have.
newspaper publishers - pallets used for pins, nest boxes, carriers and anything else made of wood
manufacturing plants that use sheet metal - large pallets usually made of 4x4's pins
local auctions - chicken wire ( I once purchased  a 150' roll of 1x1x60" poultry wire for 35.00)
construction sites - scrap plywood, 2x4's, ect...
salvage yards - used tin

pins don't need to be fancy, just strong enough to protect your birds from predators. don't over crowd them. most of mine are 8'x4' divided in half each side keeps a trio of bantams.
