With their previous release being an acceptable source for hardcore, emo, metal, pop-punk, and punk fans alike,
Alexisonfire have returned again with such a release, only this time they find the ability to litterally awe
their fans and new listeners with amazing vocals, tremendous lyrics, and the better ability to mix their emotions with
their hardcore and metal sides .
Thier self-titled debut was much more aggressive and "in your face" than that of Watch Out!, but on
this release number 2 they expand into cleaner vocals, more fashionable and distinguishable guitaring, melodic riffs, ear
drum shredding drumming and less of vocalist George's contant roared screams.
In just hearing the first single and album opener Accidents, former fans of the band may not see a very
big difference because the song seemingly stays with their previous records styles, though has a few minor changes, and is
a good opener to have the fans all riled up for the remainder of the album.
Songs that show the most change in the band are tracks like It was fear of myself that made me odd, Side walk when
she walks, That girl possesed, Happiness by the kilowatt and white devil. All of these tracks are
more mellowed out, with guitarist/vocalist Dallas using his amazing clean vocals much more, but George still throws in
a few raging screams to make them distinguishable to their fans, and to stay up to par with the expectations of the hardcore
and metal roots they have.
Alexisonfire are always able to maintain their boundaries as a screamo band and they should be credited for
this. Most bands of their style cannot maintain any boundaries in the genre and usually take rediculous steps forward
as their albums progress to be origional, which 9 times out of 10 can and will ruin them. Alexisonfire
are better than that and it is evident that they never go further than their foreseen abilities or of the muscial
basing at the time of writing their songs. It's not to be said that they always stay the same; that would be lying...they
always reach a little higher to pull off better and better songs.
The album does not go downhill as it goes on, moreover it actually climbs with NO trouble
uphill.
Watch Out!'s tracks climb uphill in their song writing abilities and status as does Alexisonfire's
career. It is evident that the band is striving for perfection in their music more and more with every album and every
song the band comes out with and aids them at getting closer to their goal, whatever it may be. Each new day their fan
base is growing larger and more and more people are witnessing the amazing ability they have to hook fans of any musical style(s).
These Canadian boys are like the ever growing technological advances in todays age: they're making other bands of their
genre, or similars genres, obsolete! So "watch out"!
