Kim
was born in Cap-de-la-Madeleine, Quebec, on October 17, 1976. She was the
oldest of two children; her brother Lee
followed in 1980. She lived with
both parents for a few years until they went their separate ways, and then lived
together with her brother, father, and paternal grandmother. Kim's
grandmother Marie-Anna was thus like a second mother to her in many ways, having
opened her heart and her home to her! It is with great sadness that the
Tanguay family said goodbye to her when she passed away in January of this year.
When Kim was eleven, she moved into a new home with her father, brother, father's girlfriend Anne, as well as her daughter Genevieve. Kim claims ENTIRE responsibility for the chance meeting between her father and Anne; the two, after all, were neighbours but failed to meet until Kim became a regular visitor in Anne's house! Anne quickly became a THIRD mother to Kim, and Genevieve became a sister.
During
this period, Kim's FIRST mother had moved to Val d'Or, in the Abitibi
region. Kim and Lee spent many summers and Christmas holidays there.
In Val d'Or, Kim's mother met a wonderful gentleman by the name of Romeo, who
swept her off her feet; the two were married in 1989. Shortly after, in
February of 1990, they moved to Chile, where Romeo had been offered a
challenging position with his company. Kim and Lee visited the country
that summer, and Kim fell in love with the place. Upon her return, she
proceded to take Spanish classes and acquaint herself with Chile.
In
1992, Kim made the big move. She left everything that was familiar to her,
and moved to Chile. Not only was this to be a wonderful cultural
experience, it also allowed her to become much closer to her mother and to
Romeo. She attended an international school there (see The
International School Nido de Aguilas), and made many great friends which
whom she still corresponds to this day. Her family also quickly integrated
into the Chilean community, becoming friends with many Chilean families.
Her brother Lee and her cousin Julie even joined her in Chile for a year.
After having graduated from high school, Kim remained in Chile for one more
year, working for a period of time, and then completing one term of university
at a local school. Kim's memories of her four years in Chile are very
special to her. She fondly r
ecalls crossing the Andes by car with her
family, and large Christmas Eve parties at her home with her family's
friends. It is with definite sadness that she left Chile in order to move
to Montreal to attend university.
Upon
her return to Montreal, Kim quickly picked up her friendship with Faye Anne, her
best friend from her days in Cap-de-la-Madeleine when she attended Three Rivers
High School. The two became roommates, both attended McGill
University, and shared many of the same friends. They have been
inseparable since! Kim's friend Cheryl, the daughter of Canadian diplomats
whom she had met in Chile, also moved to Montreal the
following year and was
part of her circle of friends. Kim was also involved with AIESEC
McGill, where she made many friends and contacts in the business world.
She remains friends to this day with many of her AIESEC colleagues.
Kim found work
with Bell Canada in
1998, and has been there since. She currently help small- and medium-sized
companies with their telecommunications needs. She lives in
Dollard-des-Ormeaux, Quebec, with her fiance Darryl, as well as her good friends
Stephanie and Ryan.
Kim's
best friend Faye Anne can claim entire responsability for Kim and Darryl's
chance meeting! Faye Anne was a franchisee of College Pro Painters in 1996
and 1997; this is a company which gives students the opportunit
y to purchase
franchises in the painting industry. In the spring of 1997, Faye Anne
placed an ad in the Montreal Gazette for a trainer and supervisor for the
student painters she would be hiring for the summer. Darryl responded to this ad, and was hired. Kim was also hired by Faye Anne, during the winter
and spring as a marketer looking for new contracts, and in the summer as a
painter.
Faye's sixth sense told her she should put Kim and Darryl on the same painting team together, which Kim promptly contested as she detests being "set up," and this had "set up" written all over it! It was not long before Darryl was offering Kim lifts home, and dinner after work. Kim at first refused, but Darryl eventually found his way to her heart. The two have been inseparable ever since!
