Twisted Rib Socks

Sock yarn; size 1 DP or 12" circular needles

Gauge: 34 sts. and 23 rows equal 4 inches square.

Leg
Cast on 66 sts. Work in K1 P1 ribbing for 1 to 1-1/4" (14 rows).

Work leg in following pattern for 10" or desired length:

Rows 1-2: Purl 1, knit 2.
Row 3: Purl 1, Right Twist over 2 stitches.
Rows 4: Purl 1, knit 2.
Repeat these 4 rows until leg is desired length. (End on row 2 of pattern.)

Heel:
Divide for heel. Place 34 stitches on 2 needles for the top of the sock. Begin and end top pattern with a purl stitch. Work short row heel on 32 stitches. If using circular needles, place marker before and after the 32 stitches for the heel.

Row 1:; knit 30 stitches; wrap; turn
Row 2 purl 28 stitches; wrap; turn
Row 3: knit 27 stitches; wrap; turn
Row 4: purl 26 stitches; wrap; turn
Row 5: knit 25 stitches; wrap; turn
Row 6: purl 24 stitches; wrap; turn
Row 7: knit 23 stitches; wrap; turn
Row 8: purl 22 stitches; wrap; turn
Row 9: knit 21 stitches; wrap; turn
Row 10: purl 20 stitches; wrap; turn
Row 11: knit 19 stitches; wrap; turn
Row 12: purl 18 stitches; wrap; turn
Row 13: knit 17 stitches; wrap; turn
Row 14: purl 16 stitches; wrap; turn
Row 15: knit 15 stitches; wrap; turn
Row 16: purl 14 stitches; wrap; turn
Row 17: knit 13 stitches; wrap; turn
Row 19: purl 12 stitches; wrap; turn

Turn Heel:
Knit across bottom, picking up and knitting all wraps along with their stitches. Purl across bottom picking up and purling all remaining wraps and stitches. Turn.

Reverse Heel Shaping:
Row 1: Knit 23 stitches; wrap; turn
Row 2: Purl 12; wrap; turn
Row 3: Knit across to wrapped stitch (12 stitches); pick up and knit the wrap and the turning stitch together; wrap next stitch; turn;
Row 4 Purl across to wrapped stitch (13 stitches); pick up and purl the wrap and turning stitch together; wrap next stitch; turn;
Row 5: Knit across to wrapped stitch (14 stitches); pick up and knit the wrap and turning stitch together; wrap next stitch; turn;

Continue as established until all stitches are live (32 stitches). Begin to knit around the sock, picking up 2 stitches between the top and bottom on both sides (70 stitches). Work 1 round, keeping the twist pattern on the top 34 stitches of the sock, and decreasing 1 stitch between the top and the bottom on both sides (68 stitches)..Work another decrease round (66 stitches)

Continue knitting on 66 stitches until 2" less than desired length of the sock. (The finished length is from the back of the heel to the end of the big toe.) Work one more round, decreasing 2 stitches (64 stitches). (End on row 2 of pattern.)

Toe Shaping:
Rnd 1:Needle #1: K to last 3 sts, k2tog, k1
Needle #2: k1, ssk, k to last 3 sts, k2tog, k1
Needle #3: k1, ssk, k
Rnd 2: K
Repeat these 2 row until 24 sts. remain. Graft together with the Kitchener stitch.
