Larry Bish belongs to a category of freethinking polyglots whose personality traits include irreverent curiosity and a tenacious
thirst for answers. He's been called an elitist's worst nightmare. Some
say he's the type of person most needed in education and management today;
an educated, working class ex-Marine, tax rebel, skilled tradesman and
general laborer with talent, experience, energy, and, when it comes to
ethical practices and behavior, an attitude.
Larry has a Masters Degree in distance education from the University
of Maryland University College and a Regents Bachelor of Arts with concentrations
in psychology and English from Shepherd College. He still draws from
his study of Communications and Media Arts at Jamestown Community College,
an excellent junior college and part of the SUNY system. JCC is located
in the snow belt south of Buffalo. Larry's ongoing masters thesis project
focuses on potentials inherent within Distance Education pedagogy
to serve the needs of students hampered by incompatibilities between institutional
systems
and
the student's own general philosophy concerning phenomena such as competitive
vs. cooperative or individual achievement, the concept of human freedom
as development, individuation, self image, interests vs. curricula and conformity vs. entrepreneurial endeavor. The project includes a sample
class to demonstrate how online course design could accommodate the needs
of persons poorly served by a regimented environment and inappropriately
assessed by standardized evaluations
