Stitched With Love

Making things for newborns in Intensive Care

This was done as a Homemaking Meeting. We invited the young women to attend.

7:15 Welcome
7:20 Special Musical Number: "His Hands" (music by Kenneth Cope)
7:25 "As His followers, we cannot do a mean or shoddy or ungracious thing without tarnishing His image. Nor can we do a good and gracious and generous act without burnishing more brightly the symbol of Him whose name we have taken upon ourselves. Our lives must become a symbol of meaningful expression, the symbol of our declaration of our testimony of the living Christ, the Eternal Son of the Living God. It is that simple. . . .It is that profound, and we should never forget it.

7:30 Instruction on how to make the preemie caps, gowns, etcetera

Here is the pattern that I used. It is McCall's 7367

The stocking cap calls for a 14 x 19 inch piece of fabric: cotton knit, interlock, or brushed cotton knit

The pattern is basically two ovals sewn together, turned right side out and folded. It is extremely simple.

Click here to find out if there is a hospital in your area that could use infant caps.

If you cannot find a hospital close to you on the list, you may want to contact your hospital personally, or donate the items to Newborns In Need.

There are many free patterns on the Internet for crochet and knitting!

For those who do not wish to learn to sew, or do not enjoy sewing, we also had people bring in donations for a homeless shelter to sort through that evening. Check your county website for shelters in your area. If you don't know it's address, do a search at Yahoo for your county's name.
