Len Rich's Outdoor Reader

Hi. My name is Len Rich, and for four decades I've been writing articles and books with an outdoor theme.

My experiences have taken me across much of eastern Canada, in particular Newfoundland and Labrador. My expertise is fly fishing for Eastern brook trout and Atlantic salmon, although I'm also a bowhunter and enjoy fly tying. Through six published books, one to which I contributed and acted as editor, and hundreds of feature articles in various Canadian and US magazines, I have recorded my outdoor experiences and now pass along some of my favorites in the hope that you may also enjoy them.

My books include "Newfoundland salmon flies ... and how to tie them", published in 1985 and still available through me; "The Best of In The Woods", published in 1991 by Cuff Publications of St. John's, NL, and now out of print; "Fly Fishing Tips and Tactics ... for Atlantic salmon, Arctic char and Eastern brook trout", published in 1999; "Rivers and Woods", 2002, a collection of short stories; "Tales of Christmas", 2003, short stories from several authors across Canada who contributed to the anthology; and my latest, "So you want to be an outfitter", 2005, the latter four books available through Jesperson Publishing, St. John's, NL.

You may also order any of these with the exception of "The best of In The Woods" (out of print) directly from me by clicking on my name at the bottom of this text, which will send me an Email. I will be pleased to personalize a copy for you.

I am extremely pleased to include here "The Best of IN THE WOODS", a collection of short articles which first appeared in The Newfoundland Herald, a weekly entertainment guide published in St. John's and distributed across the province. "In the Woods" was the name of my weekly column which ran for more than a decade. This book was published in 1991 by Cuff Publications, St. Johns, NF, and is now out-of-print. (Material may be reprinted through "ACCESS COPYRIGHT", the Canadian Copyright Licensing Agency with permission of the author).

During the warmer months I'll probably be on a river somewhere in Canada gathering information and photos for my next article. I am also the Eastern Director for the Outdoor Writers of Canada, a voluntary position which keeps me in touch with other outdoor writers across the breadth of this great country.

So curl up with a beverage of choice and read from "Best of In The Woods" and a few of my favourite feature articles. I hope you enjoy reading these stories as much as I did in writing them, and that you learn something from them!
