Notes: When necessary, work over unused strand to carry it along in work. Odd-numbered rows are read from right to left on chart and even-numbered rows are read from left to right on chart. Row 1 is the bottom of chart and Row 24 is the top of the chart. Each square on chart equals 1 sc stitch. White squares = white colored yarn; golded squares=gold or yellow colored yarn; blue squares=blue colored yarn
Additional Notes: To change colors, work a sc with the old color, then, pull the new color through the last two loops to complete that single crochet.
To begin, ch 25.
Row 1: (With blue) 1 sc in 2nd ch from hook, 1 sc in each ch across; ch 1, turn (now and thoughout pattern). (24 sc).
Rows 2, 3 & 4: 1 Sc in each sc across; ch 1, turn. (24 sc).
Row 5: 1 Sc in each of 1st 15 sc; (change to gold or yellow), 1 sc in each of next 5 sc; (change to blue), 1 sc in each of last 4 sc; ch 1, turn.
Row 6: 1 Sc in each of 1st 3 sc; (change to gold or yellow), 1 sc in each of next 7 sc; (change to blue), 1 sc in each of last 14sc; ch 1, turn.
Rows 7 - 24: Continue pattern according to chart making necessary color changes where indicated. At the end of last row, fasten off the 2 colors you do not wish to edge with (be sure to leave at least 6 inches for sewing on these ends so your squares won't come apart).
EDGING:
Work a sc edging all around the perimeter as follows: 1 sc in each row along sides; 1 sc in opposite side of each foundation ch on bottom; 1 sc in each sc across top and also working 3 sc in each corner to prevent curling. Sl st to beg sc and fasten off leaving at least a 6" (inch) length of yarn for sewing in. Sew in all ends with a large-eyed sewing needle. Note: sample photo is made without the edging. Note: The light blue square above is made with the edging in a contrasting color and the dark blue square is made without an edging.
