Passing by Xiang-Ji Temple

Wang, Wei    (700 A.D.-761 A.D.)

I do not know the exact location of Xiang-Ji Temple.
After walking several miles,
I ascend the cloud covered summit.
Seeing that there are no people on the path that runs through the ancient trees,
I wonder where in this deep forest the sound of bells is coming from.
A spring gurgles beneath huge dangerous rocks.
The sunshine illuminating pine trees is cold and cheerless.
As the night falls,
A Buddhist monk sits, meditating at the bend of a pond
To control the poisonous dragon called desire.
