Sending Tu off to Assume His Office

Wang, Po (650 A.D.?-676 A.D.)

I send Tu off at China's capital,
which controls the Western Basin.
Through the wind and fog,
He tries to spot the five ferry crossings near his destination.
Though parting is sad,
I wish him well
Because I too have to leave my hometown to take a job.
If people have the same interests and ideals,
They will still be like next-door neighbors
Even though they are separated by a long distance.
We should not weep like children
As we part at this cross road.
