Being
able to kiss Dan Paris on a regular basis was one of the reasons Kym Valentine
decided it was a good idea to stay living in Ramsay Street. Dan, a former model
and athlete who plays Kym's fiance Drew on the show, made a welcome change from
the middle-aged married university lecture that Kym's character Libby previously
dated
At one stage last year the
long-time Neighbours star was considering waving goodbye to the residents of
Erinsborough for good. After all, she had played good girl Libby Kennedy for
more than five years at the stage and there wasn't much more scope for Libby to
develop.
Until Dan arrived and the love
affair between his character Drew and Libby hotted up. "I must admit
kissing some of the people who Libby has fallen in love with has been
horrible," laughs Kym. "But Dan is lovely. All my girlfriends are so
jealous that I get to kiss him."
Although finding herself in
passionate clinches with Dan is a bonus, it was Libby's heart-wrenching
storyline over the past few months that kept Kym coming back to Erinsborough for
another year. "I couldn't come so far with Libby and not complete the
journey. It was such a great storyline and it's far from the end of it
yet."
After discovering she couldn't
have children, Libby forced Drew away, but their love proved too strong and the
pair is soon to be reunited on our screens. "There are all the wedding
plans to worry about now and there's a lot more in store for Libby and Drew. But
it's someone else's turn to have the heartache and problems for a change,"
says Kym, hinting we may see Libby at the altar after all. "I can at last
go to work and be happy instead of having to cry all day."
But Ramsay Street may soon have
to take a back seat- Kym admits her partner of three years is getting itchy feet
and has asked his live-in ladylove to throw off the shackles of work and travel
the world with him. "I keep saying next year, but it never comes,"
says Kym. "That's what I'll be doing- traveling- when I do leave Neighbours
but that's not in the near future. It might be his turn to go and do what he
wants while I wait at home."
