The 3rd Annual Baskets and Botany event took place at the Tecolote Nature Center located just opposite the Sea World Drive exit off Interstate 5.

Although rain was predicted, it never arrived and a partly sunny day left a warm feeling among all who came to the event.
New this year were such fun things as:
- the horse and wagon ride
a ride for all, driven by "Barney" and "Clyde", on a mile-long tour through the canyon

- the bird exhibit
several live owls and hawks were on display within the Nature Center
- the lizard
a live lizard was shared among daring children
As with last year, the event included a variety of activities for children of all ages including:
- shell drilling
kids can use "Original American" tools to drill holes into shells for necklaces
- flintknapping
tools are used to break of pieces of glass-like rocks to produce spears and arrow heads

- basket weaving
dried gourds and strips of leather form beautiful baskets

- wall painting
children could show off their artistic talents with chalk on the event's drawing board
Other popular displays included:
- the Indian hut
a replica of the original huts used by the Kumeyaay Indians here in Tecolote Canyon over 100 years ago

- Bow & Arrows
hand-made bows and arrow were available for viewing

Also, the Kumeyaay Elders were available for their ever-intriguing stories,

and Abel Silva was there (for two shows) to present his mime and wit in his unique, humorous and interesting style--a must see for next year!
